27th May[1]. He was murdered in his own cathedral 29th Dec. 1170[2], "quinta die Natalis Domini[3]," and was there buried[4].

19 H. II.Richard, prior of Dover, was elected 3rd June (iii Non. Jun.) 1173 at London, but the royal assent was withheld, and the archbishop-elect appealed to Rome for the Pope's confirmation, which he obtained with some difficulty 2nd April 1174[6]. He was consecrated 8th April following[7]. He sat as archbishop ten years and eight months. He died at "Halinges" 16th Feb. 1184, and was buried in the church of St. Mary there on the 18th of the same month[8].

30 H. II.Baldwin, bishop of Worcester, was translated to Canterbury; his election took place 16th Dec. 1184[9]. He was enthroned 19th May following[10] and died 19th Nov. 1190[11] at the siege of Acre, where he was buried[12].

8 Ric. I.Reginald Fitz-Joceline, bishop of Bath and Wells, was elected as the successor of archbishop Baldwin 27th Nov. 1191 ; but he died 26th Dec. 1191, before his election was confirmed by the Pope[13], and was
