by authority of parliament 30th May 1559, and com- mitted to the Marshalsea prison, where he died 5th Sept. 1569, and was buried in the churchyard of St. George, Southwark, in a spot used only for the inter- ment of prisoners. On 22nd June 1559 the dean and chapter of London had license to elect a bishop in the stead of Edmund Bonner deprived . 1559 Edmund Grindal, S.T.P., was elected to the bishop- 2 Eliz. vie of London 26th July 1559, consecrated 21st Dec. and enthroned two days afterwards "; the temporal- ities were restored to him 2ist March 1560- 1 , and 16th May 1570 he was translated to York 22 . The license to elect a bishop in the room of Edmund Grindal translated to York is dated 1st June 1570 23 . 1570 Edwin S andes or Sandys, bishop of Worcester} having 12 Eliz. been elected to this see 2nd June 1570, was translated hither, and received the royal assent 1st July-' ; the temporalities on the 13th-', and was enthroned on the 20th of the same month 26 . After presiding over this see six years and a half he was removed to York in 15767. On the translation of bishop Sandcs to York, a conge d'elire issued 10th March J576- 7 - 7 , in pursuance of which 1577 John Aylmeb, S.T.P., archdeacon of Lincoln, was 19 Eliz. elected on the 1 2th, confirmed on the 22nd, and consecrated 24th March 15767 - s . The queen's assent to his election was given 18th April 29 \ and ho received the temporalities iotli May following 30 . He died in the beginning of June I594 31 , and was
