588 John deWaltham, LL.D., archdeacon of Richmond and tic ii- master 0/ the Rolls, was promoted to the bishopric of Salisbury by papal bull dated 3rd April 1388 !> . Tho temporalities were restored to him 13th Sept. 36 , and he made his profession of obedience and received the spiritualities the next day. His consecration was per- formed in the abbey church of Barnwell nearCambridge 20th Sept.-'" He died 1 71I1 Sept. ^95, and was buried iu thechapelof king Kdwanl theOonfessor in Westminster abbey 38 . His will, dated and Sept. 1395, was proved on the 26th of that month ; '. The license to elect a bishop in the room of John de Waltham is dated 2(,th Sept. 1395 ' '. No election however took place, and

will is dated 29th April 1407, and it was proved 11th May following 42 . The license for the election of a bishop in the room of Richard Mitford is dated 9th May 1407 ,a , but
407 Nicholas Bubbewyth, bishop of London, was removed IV- to the see of Salisbury by bull dated 22nd June 1407 ' ' ;
the temporalities were restored to him J4U1 Aug. 1407 '\ He made his profession of obedience by proxy 2nd Sept., and afterwards in person 2nd Oct. 46 The Pope's bull translating him to Bath and Wells '" is dated 7th Oct. 1407.
