162 YORK. John Bothe succeeded in 1457, ^^^ resigned in 1453. John Kxaptox 7th March 1453—4*'^; but he does not seem to have retained it, as John Pakexham was collated on Bothe's resignation, and died possessed of this dignity 2nd Oct. 1477. His will, dated 20th July 1477, ^^^^ proved on the 20th Oct. following. He was custos of the spiritualities of the archtrishopric during the vacancy of the see in 146544. Thomas Portington was admitted in 1477, on Pa- kenham's death. His will, dated loth June 1485, was proved 30th Jan. 1485-6. William Sheffield was instituted 17th July 1485, vice Partington. He resigned it in 1494, on being made dean of York. Hugh Trotter was collated in 1494; he died, hold- ing the dignity, in 1503. Martin Collyns was collated in Sept. 1503, on Trot- ters death. He presented Richard Godson to the subtreasurership 15th Nov. 1508^^ He died 4th Feb. 1508—9. His will, dated i8th Aug. 1508, was proved 2nd Nov. 1509. Robert Langton was installed 24th April 1509, vice Collyns. He resigned in 15 14. Lancelot Collynson was collated in May 15 14, and installed in person 15th Nov. following. He died 8th April 1538, and was buried in York cathedral *. William Cliff was installed 13th April J538, void by the decease of Collynson. On the 26th May 1547 he resigned this dignity into the hands of king Edward VI., with all its demesnes, manors, rights, members, and appurtenances, with the advowsons of all its churches, vicarages, chapelrios,&c.; a caption whereof was taken and recognized ist Juno following by the •*3 MS.
