He died 21st Feb. 1836. 1836 Edward Maltby, bishop of Chichester, was nominated 6 Will. IV. ^rd March 1836, and elected 19th March ; he received the royal assent 6th June, and was confirmed 8th June; the temporalities were restored to him 30th June. His lordship is the present holder of the see. The bishopric is rated for first fruits at j 821^. i^. 3c?. The arms of this see are thus blazoned : Azure, a cross between four lions rampant, or. DEANS. The charter for erecting a deanery and twelve pre- bends in this cathedral bears date 12th May 1541. Hugh Whitehead, S.T.P., was made the first dean of this church by the foundation-charter, dated as above. He died at London, and was buried in Trinity church in the Minories, but the time of his death is unknown. Robert Horne, S.T.P., was presented 1 8th Nov. 1551^'*.
