DEANS. 299 Thomas Watson, S.T.P., i8th Nov. 1553 ; in 1557 he was made bishop of Lincoln. Thomas Robertson, S.T.P., succeeded 23rd July 1557, and in 1559 he was ejected_, that the deanery might be restored to Robert Horne, S.T.P., who in 1561 was made bishop of Winchester. Ralph Skinner was instituted ist March, and installed 5th March 1560—61, and died in 1563. William Whittingham had this dignity conferred on him 19th July 1563. He died loth June 1379, and was buried in the cathedral. Thomas Wilson, LL.D.,was installed 5th Feb. 1579-80, and died in 158 1. His funeral was celebrated 17th June in St. Catherine's church near the Tower, Lon- don. Vacant two years. Tobias Matthew, S.T.P., was instituted 8th Aug., and installed 31st Aug. 1583, and in 1595 was made bishop of this church ^9. William James, S.T.P., was installed 5th June 1596, and in Sept. 1606 he was promoted to the bishopric of this see. Adam Newton was installed 27th Sept. 1606. (He was afterwards a baronet.) He resigned it in 1620^^. Richard Hunt, S.T.P., a prebendary ofCanterhury^ was instituted 8th May, and installed 29th May 1620^1. He died 2nd Nov. 1638^^. Walter Balcanquall, S.T.P., was installed 13th May 1639. He died 25th Doc. 1645, and was buried in the church of Chirk in Denbighshire ^-^ Christopher Potter, S.T.P., dean of Worcester , had a grant of it from the King in Jan. 1 645-6, but died 3rd March following, before he received installation. •• Reg.
