so WINCHESTER. John Patten, alias Waynflete, was styled so in 1449, 1457, and 1462'^^. AViLLiAM Smith from this dignity was made bishop of Coventry and Liciifield in 1493 -•». Oliver Dynham held the office in 1500. His will, dated 2nd April, was proved 30th May 1500. Christopher Bayxbrigg was one of the executors of the will of bishop Thomas Langton in 1501^^. Christopher Urswick was possessed of this dignity 24th April 1 50 1, by way of exchange for some other proferment with his predecessor Baynbrigg-^. John Stokeslie, S.T.P., enjoyed this dignity some time before he was made bishop of London. John Fox seems to have held this office after Stokeslie. Thomas Baghe, S.T.P., was present at a convocation in 1536, and at another in i 547-". Edmund Marvyn enjoyed it in queen Mary's reign, and was deprived by queen IClizabeth. John Watson had this dignity conferred on him i6th Nov. 1559, and in 1570 became dean of this cathe- dral. William Wickham resigned the office in the begin- ning of the year 1580-^. Jam IS Cottington, S.T.P., succeeded in 1581, and died in the latter end of 1605. Arthi'r Lake, S.T.P., dean of Worcester^ installed 19th Oct. 1605. George ILkewell, S.T.P., installed 7th Feb. 1616. He died in the beginning of April 1649, and was buried in the church of Heampton, near Barnstaple in Devonshire. His will is in the Prerogative Office of Canterbury'-^^.
