BISHOPS. 65 1559 Edwin Sandes or Sandys, S.T.P., was elected 25th 2 Eiiz. Nov. 1559, had the royal assent on the iSth^^, was confirmed 20th Dec. in Bow church, London, and consecrated at Lambeth the next day^^, when the temporalities were restored to him 2-2. He was trans- lated to London 2nd June 1570 and installed 20th July following 23, James 24 Calfhill, S.T.B., archdeacon 0/ Colchester^ was nominated on the translation of Sandes to London, but died before consecration. 157 J Nicholas Bullingham, bishop 0/ Lincoln, was elected 12 Eliz. to this see i8th Jan. 1570—71, and was confirmed on the 26th of the same months 5. The temporalities were restored to him J4th Feb. 1570-7126. He died 1 8th April 1576, and was buried in his own cathe- dral27. The license to elect,, vice Nicholas Bulling- ham, is dated 24th April 1577 2^. 1577 John Whitgift, S.T.P., dean of Lincoln, and master 19 Eliz. of Trinity college, Cambridge, was nominated by the Queen 24th March 1577"^^; elected by the chapter 4th April, had the royal assent on the 9th3o, confirmed on the 1 6th, and consecrated on the 21st of the same month 3^, and had the temporalities restored to him loth May following ^2 Qn 23rd Sept. 1583 he was translated to Canterbury •'^'^. 1584 Edmund Freake, bishop of Noricich, was nominated 27 Eliz. by the Queen to this see 26th Oct. 1584, elected by the chapter 6th Nov., and confirmed by the arch- bishop 5th Dec.'^^ He died 21st March 1590-91, and 2'> Pat. 2 Eliz. p. 14. m. 6. 29 There must be a mistake in 2> Reg.
