FRENCH NURSERY RHYMES.

THE CURFEW[1]

Go home, people of Paris,
Shut yourselves in your lodgings;
Let all noise cease,
Leave these places,
For now is the time,
The time of curfew.

AWAKENING.

I've slept well!
I've gone
Far, far from here!
Here I am again,
And Mama too.
My God, thank you.

THE MORNING.

Here is the dawn,
The night is fleeing;
The sky turns golden,
The sun is shining.

  1. Couvre-feu (s.m.), curfew, in feudal times, the ringing of a bell at eight o'clock as a signal to put out all fires and lights.
