Anderson, Charles, lawyer, soldier, orator, governor, was born 1814, in Louisville, Ky. ifle was an eloquent member of the Cincinnati bar. He made a union speech in San Antonio, Texas, which caused his arrest. He effected his escape; and raised the ninety-third regiment Ohio volunteer infantry for service in the civil war. He was wounded at Stone river; resigned and was elected lieutenantgovernor of Ohio in 1864; and in 1865 became governor. He was a brother of General Anderson of Sumter fame. He died Sept. 3,

During the civil war in 186165 he was colonel of the twenty-first regiment Alabama infantry; and attained the rank of brigadier-general in the confederate states army. Anderson, Charles M., soldier, lawyer, congressman, was born Jan. 5, 1845, in Juniata county. Pa. He moved to Ohio in 1855; and served in the union army throughout the civil war. He practiced law in Greenville, Ohio. In 1885-87 he was a representative from Ohio to the forty-ninth congress. Anderson, Charles Palmerston, clergyman, bishop, was born Sept. 8, 1865, in Canada. For many years he was rector of Grace church at Oak Park, HI. Since 1890 he has been bishop coadjutor of Chicago. Anderson, Clifford, lawyer, jurist, was born March 23, 1833, in Virginia. He was elected judge of Macon city court in 1856; and served ten years as attorney-general of Georgia. He died in 1898 in Macon, Ga. Anderson, Daniel, soldier, lawyer, founder, was bom in 1821 in Indiana. In 1843 he began the practice of law in Albia, Iowa. In 1854 he was elected a member of the Iowa state senate. He was one of the founders of the republican party; and in 1856 was a delegate to the national republican convention

was born Nov. 26, 1825, in Clarendon, N.Y. He moved to Michigan in 1854, and settled in Madison; and in 1865 moved state senator,

to Columbia. In 1862 he joined the nineteenth regiment Michigan infantry as first

lieutenant; became captain, major and colonel. In 1873-74 he served as a member of the Michigan state senate. Anderson, David M., manufacturer, was born Oct. 9, 1855, in Harrison, N.Y. He was educated at the Brooklyn polytechnic instiute. He is president of Taggarts paper company; is general manager of the Saint Regis paper company; and is one of the leading paper manufacturers of America. He is a trustee of the Watertown city hospital; and a trustee of the Jefferson county institute.

Jan. 23, 1868, in Tennessee. In 1891 he was second lieutenant in the fourth cavalry; and became first lieutenant in the tenth cavalry in 1897. In 1900 he was wounded at Santiago; and then commanded the twenty-sixth regiment United States volunteers in the Philippine islands. He is now captain in the twelfth cavalry United States army. Anderson, Edward Lowell, soldier, lawyer, author, was born Oct. 4, 1842, in Cincinnati, Ohio. He was educated at Phillips Exeter academy; and in 1861 left school to enter the union army. He served as first lieutenant and captain in the fifty-second regiment Ohio volunteer infantry in 1862-65; was captain on the staff of General William T. Sherman; and was in the battles of Perryville, Murfreesboro, Chickamauga, Mission Ridge, Kenesaw Mountain and Jonesboro. He graduated from the law school of the university of Cincinnati; and since 1866 has been in the practice of his profession in Cincinnati, Ohio. He is the author of Northern Ballads; Soldier and Pioneer; Six Weeks in Norway; Modern Horsemanship; and Crub Snaffle and Spur. Anderson, Edward Pretot, litterateur, author, was born in 1855 in New York. He is the author of The Ashmeads, or Scenes in Northern Europe; and Christian Giving and Living.

Anderson, Edwin A., naval officer, was born about 1850 in North Carolina. In 189495 he had charge of the branch hydrographie. office at New Orleans, La.; and in 1898 was. promoted to lieutenant. In 1900 he was commanding Nanshan. Anderson, Edwin Hatfield, librarian, bibliographer, was born Sept. 27, 1861, in Zionsville, Ind. In 1883 he graduated from Wab^ ash college with the degree of B.A.; and subsequently received the degree of M.A. from that institution of learning. In 1890-91 he
