works. Beardsley, Joseph Cosmo, soldier, was born in Ohio. In 1898 he attained the rank of captain of Ohio volunteers. Beardsley, Levi, lawyer, state senator, jurist, was born Nov. 13, 1785, in Hoosic, N.Y. In 1835 he was elected to the New York state assembly that passed the first railroad charter in the
Science of the Human Mind; and Reply to Dr. Channing. He died Nov. 2, 1845, in Elizabethtown, N.J. Beasley, Mercer, lawyer, jurist, was born in 1815 in Philadelphia, Pa. He began the practice of law in 1838; and became justice of the supreme court of New Jersey. In 1864 he became chief justice; and held the office until his death. He died Feb. 19, 1897, in Trenton, N.J. Beates, Henry, physician, scientist, was born Dec. 20, 1857, in Philadelphia, Pa. He was president of tlie state board medical examiners of Philadelphia, Pa. published an autobiographical volume entitled Reminiscences. He died March 19, 1857, in New York. Beardsley, Nelson, manufacturer, bank president, was born May 30, 1807, in Southbury, Conn. In 1848 he became one of the incorporators of the Oswego starch factory; and in 1883-94 was its president. He gained a fortune of seven million dollars. He died Jan. 15, 1894, in Auburn, N.Y. Beardsley, Samuel, lawyer, jurist, congressman, was born Feb. 9, 1790, in Hoosic, N.Y. He held the post of attorney-general of New York statp. In 1831-37 and 1843-45 he was a representative from New York to the twenty-second, twenty-third, twenty-fourth and twenty-eighth congresses. He also held the office of state senator in 1823; and was assistant justice and chief justice of the supreme court of the state. He died May 6, 1860, in Utica, N.Y. Beardsley, Samuel Raymond, lawyer, soldier, was bom Dec. 31, 1814, in CJherry Valley, N.Y. He was elected mayor of Oswego in 1852; and appointed Postmaster in 1863.
He was commissioned
lieutenant-colonel in the twenty- fourth regiment New York volunteers In 1861; was wounded at Chancellorsville; and was promoted to the colonelcy in 1863. He died Dec. 28, 1863, in Stevensburg, Va. Beaseley, Nathaniel, pioneer, soldier, state senator, was bom in 1751. He was a large

Beatley, Mrs. Clara Bancroft, educator, lecturer, author, was born Jan. 12, 1858, in Shirley, Mass. She graduated from the Ayer Beath,
