He was the author of Hester, the Bride of the Islands, a poem; and Guide Book of the Atlantic and St. Lawrence. He died in 1882 in Portland, Maine.

Beckwith, Charles Minngerode, educator, clergyman, bishop, author, was born June 3, 1.851, in Prince George county, Va. in 187379 he was master of grammar schools in the university of the South. In 1881 he became priest in charge of St. Luke's cathedral of Atlanta, Ga. In 1886 he became rector of Christ church of Houston, Texas. In 1892 he became rector of Trinity church at Galveston, Texas; and in 1902 was consecrated protestant episcopal bishop of Alabama. He is the author of The Trinity Course of Church Instruction; and The Teacher's Companion to the Trinity Course. Beckwith, Clarence Augustine, clergyman, educator, theologian, author, was born July 21, 1849, in Charlemont, Mass. In 1877-92 he was a clergyman; since that time has been a professor of christian theology; and since 1905 at the Chicago theological seminary. He is the author of Realities of Christian Theology. Beckwith, Edward Griffin, soldier, was bom June 25, 1818, in Cazenovia, N.Y. He graduated from West Point in 1843; and served in the war with Mexico at Tampioo and Vera Cruz. In 1865 he received the brevet rank of brigadier-general United States army. He died June 22, 1881, in Clifton, N.Y. Beckwith, George C, clergyman, peace advocate, was born in 1800. He was a congregational minister, who devoted himself to the service of the American peace society, of which he was for thirty-three years corresponding secretary. He also edited its magazine, the Advocate of Peace, and wrote the appeals issued in its name in favor of peace congresses and the arbitration of international disputes. He died May 12, 1870, in Boston, Mass. Beckwith, James Carroll, painter, artist, was born Sept: 23, 1853, in Hannibal, Mo. He is an academician. He opened a studio in Ney York City in 1878. His works include Judith, portraits exhibited at the New York academy of design, and the Falconer. He received a medal from the universal exposition in Paris in 1889.
