Blair, William Allen, educator, lecturer, author, was born June 4, 1860, in High Point, X.C. After graduating in 1882 from Harvard university he entered actively into educational work. In 1889 he was commissioned as state representative of the Paris exposition,

and has thoroughly examined the school systems of Europe. He has been president of several societies and in 1890 became president of the People's national bank of Winston, N. C. In 1899 he was president of the Xorth Carolina state bankers' association. He is the author of The History of Banking in North Carolina; Banks of Issue; and other works. Blair, William B., soldier, was born in Virginia. In 1838 he graduated from the

United States military academy. In 1840-52 he was

first

lieutenant; and became captain

in 1850. In 1861-65 he was a major in the service of the confederate states army. He

soldier, was born in Pennsylvania. In 1865 he was brevetted brigadier-general of volunteers. He died Dec. 7, 1888, in Bellefonte, Pa. Blaisdell, Albert Franklin, physician, author, was born Aug. 31, 1860, in Southampton, N.H. In 1878 he commenced the practice of medicine in Providence, R.I. and was physician to the Rhode Island hospital. He is the author of Study of the English Classics Our Bodies and How We Live; How to Keep Well; Child's Book of Health; and First Steps with American and British Authors. Blaisdell, Daniel, lawyer, congressman, was bom in 1760 in New Hampshire. He was a, state councilor in 1803-08. In 1809-11 he was a representative from New Hampshire to the eleventh congress. Blair, Samuel S., congressman, was born in Pennsylvania. In 1859-63 he was a representative from Pennsylvania to the thirty-sixth and thirty-seventh congresses. He died Dec. 8, 1890, in Holidayburg, Pa. Blair, William, merchant. About 1848, after the opening of the Illinois and Michigan canal, he closed the retail branch of his business, thus becoming the first to establish an exclusively wholesale hardware house in Chicago, 111.; and being at the time the only one in the west outside of St. Louis. He died in Chicago, 111.

In 1907-08 he was secretary of state for North Dakota. Blaisdell, Elija Whittier, lawyer, journalist, statesman, author, poet, was born July 18, 1826, in Montpelier, Vt. In 1854 he moved to Rookford, 111.; participated with Abraham Lincoln in the formation of the republican party in 1856;

and was the first editor in the United States
