iBromley, Isaac Hill, journalist, legislator, author, was born March 6, 1833, in Norwich, Conn. He served as a captain in 1863; and afterward was provost-marshal. In 1866 he was a member of the Connecticut state legislature. In 1868-73 he was editor and part proprietor of the Hartford Evening Post; and was an editorial writer on the New York Tribune in 1873-83. He died Aug. 11, 1898, in Norwich, Conn. Bromwell, Henry P. H., journalist, lawyer, jurist, congressman, was born Aug. 29, 1823, in Baltimore, Md. In 1852-54 he was the publisher and editor of the Age of Steam and Fire at Vandalia, 111. In 1853-57 he was judge of Fayette county; and was a presidential elector in 1860. In 1865-69 he was a representative from Illinois to the thirtyninth and fortieth congresses as a republican. He died about 1904 in Charleston, 111.
Bromwell, Jacob Henry, educator, lawyer, congressman, was born May 11, 1847, in Cincinnati, Ohio. He taught in the Cincinnati high schools for seventeen years. He was asbistant county solicitor of Hamilton county for four years. In 1893-1903 he was a representative from Ohio to the fifty-third, fiftyfourth, fifty-fifth, fifty-sixth and fifty-seventh congresses. Bronaugh, John Mitchell, soldier, was born in Washington, D.C. He served in the Mexi-
can war; and in 1847 was brevetted

lieutenant for gallant and meritorious conduct in the battles of Contreras and Churuhusco. He died March 23, 1889.
Brondel, John Baptist, clergyman, bishop, was born in 1843 in Belgium. He was consecrated bishop of Vancouver island in 1879; was appointed administrator of the vicariate apostolic of Montana in 1883; and in 1884 was consecrated bishop of Helena in the same territory. He died Nov. 3, 1903, in Helena, Mont.
Bronson, Isaac H., lawyer, jurist, congress-
man, was born Oct. 16, 1802, in Rutland, N. Y. In 1837-39 he was a representative from to the twenty-fifth congress. In 1839 he was appointed one of the territorial i.idges 01 Florida; and from that time until his death was continuously on the bench as judge of the United States district court for northern Florida. He died Aug. 13, 1855, in Palatka, Fla. Bronson, Sherlock A., clergyman, college president, was born April 21, 1807, in Waterbury. Conn. He was president of Kenyon college in 1845-50. In 1872-89 he was rector of Grace church of Mansfield, Ohio. He died May 17, 1890, in Mansfield, Ohio.

Bronson, Silas, merchant, philanthropist, in Middleborough, Conn. He acquired a fortune; and among other bequests left two hundred thousand dollars to found a public library in Waterbury, Conn. He died Nov. 25, 1867, in New York City. Bronson, Stephen, soldier, was born in New York. In 1862 he was captain in the twelfth regiment Illinois cavalry; and in 1865 was brevetted brigadier-general of volunteers. He died July 19, 1896. In 1841-43 he was a representative from Maine to the twentyseventh congress. In 1854-57 he was judge of probate for Sagadahock county. He died in November, 1863, in Talbot county, Md.

In 1819 he was chosen surrogate of Oneida county; in 1822 was a member of the state assembly; 1829-36 was attorney-general; and in 1836 became a judge of the supreme court of judicature.
