She died in 1885 in Weymouth, Mass. Chapman, Millie Jane, educator, physician, was born July 33, 1845, in Crawford county. Pa. For twelve years she was engaged in educational work. Since becoming a physician she has held many official positions in local, state and national medical societies. She is one of the physicians in the Homoeopathic hospital; an attending physician for two children's homes; and lecturer on physics at a co-educational college of Pitts-
burg, Pa.
Chapman, Nathaniel, educator, physician, author, was born May 28, 1780, in Summer Hill, Va. He was a. Philadelphia physician; and professor of medicine in the university of Pennsylvania in 1814-50. He was the author of Materia Medica and Therapeutics, long a valued textbook; Select Speeches; Lectures on Eruptive Fevers, Haemorrhages and Dropsies; and Lectures on Thoracic Viscera. He died July 1, 1853, in Philadelphia. Chapman, Pleasant Thomas, lawyer, jurist, congressman, was born Oct. 8, 1854, in Johnson county, Va. In 1877 he was elected superintendent of the Johnson county schools, and re-appointed for a short time in 1881. Tn 1882 he was elected county judge; and in 1890-94 was a member of the Illinois state senate. In 1905-11 he was a representative from Illinois to the fifty-ninth, sixtieth and sixty-first congresses. Chapman, Reuben, congressman, governor, was bom July 15, 1799, in Eandolph county, Va. In 1835-47 he was a representative from Alabama to the twenty-fourth and twentyninth congresses; and was the eleventh governor of that state in 1847-49. He died May 17, 1883, in Huntsville, Ala. Chapman, Reuben Atwater, lawyer, jurist, was born Sept. 20, 1801, in Russell, Mass. He practiced successively in Westfleld, Monson. Ware and Springfield. In 1860-68 he was an associate justice of the supreme court of Massachusetts; and in 1868-73 was chief justice. He died June 28, 1873, in Switzerland.
Chapman, Robert Hett, educator, clergyman, college president, was bom March 3, 1771, in Orange, N.J. In 1813 he became president of the university of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he remained until 1816; after which he officiated variously in Virginia, North Carolina and Tennessee. Chappell, Absalom Harris, lawyer, congressman, author, was born Deo. 18, 1801, in Hancock county, Ga. He was a, representative of the Georgia state legislature for three terms; a member of the state senate; and president of that body. In 1843-45 he was a representative from Georgia to the twenty-eighth congress. He died Dec. 11, 1878, in Georgia.
