Allen, Charles Warrenne, physician, surgeon, author, was born Dec. 4, 1854, in Flemington, N.J. He was professor of dormatology in the post-graduate medical school; and consulting surgeon to various hospitals in New York City. He was the author of Practitioners' Manual; Handy Book of Medical Progress; Radio-Therapy; and Photography. He died in 1907 in New York. Allen, Clarence Emir, educator, lawyer, congressman, was born Sept. 8, 1853, in Girard. Pa. He was an instructor in Salt Lake academy in 1882-86; and then entered upon the business of mining. He was elected to and served in the territorial legislatures of 1888, 1890 and 1894; was county clerk of Salt Lake county in 1890-93 was admitted to the bar at Salt Lake City in 1893; and was the liberal candidate for delegate to congress in 1892. In 1895-97 he was a rep;
resentative from Utah to the forty-fourth congress as a republican. Allen, Clarence Jean, physician, business president, was born July 24, 1853, in Pomfret, Vt. In 1884 he graduated from the medical department of the university of Vermont. He has attained success as an eminent physician of Winchester, Mass.; and has been secretary of the Winchester board of health. He has been president of the Winchester improvement association; and for many years has been identified with the business and public affairs of his city. In 1867 he was a delegate to the constitutional convention of New York ; held many local positions was a thirty-two degree mason and for fifty years
was a
trustee of
Washington academy. His
father, David Allen, was a prominent lawyer of Rensselaer county, N.Y.; and was surrogate, assemblyman and state senator for ma-
ny years. His son is also jurist of Salem, N.Y. Allen, Cyrus in Indiana.

States military academy; and in 1865 was second lieutenant in the second United Stat-, es cavalry. In 1866 he attained the rank of first lieutenant; and resigned in 1868. Allen, David Oliver, educator, missionary, author, was born Sept. 14, 1799, in Barre, Mass. He was graduated at Amherst college in 1823; taught in Lawrence academy; and then entered Andover theological seminary. In 1827 he became a missionary to Bombay; and there established schools and preached, and made extensive tours in Western India. In 1844 he took charge of the Bombay printing establishment. He wrote tracts in Mahratta; and supervised a new translation of the bible in that language. Injured in health by the Indian climate, he returned to America in 1853; and in 1857-58 he preached in Westford, Mass. After his return he published a History of India, Ancient and Modern. He died July 19, 1863, in Lowell, Mass. Allen, David Van Horn, naval officer, was born about 1850 in Tennessee. In 1887 he was a naval cadet. In 1898 he became assistant engineer; and in 1901 was given the hank of lieutenant. Since 1895 he has been attached to the Topeka. Allen, De Witt Clinton, lawyer, statesman, was born Nov. 11, 1835, in Liberty, Mo. He has held positions as circuit attorney of the first judicial circuit of
Missouri; and was a
member
of the Missouri constitutional convention of 1875. For eleven years he was a trustee of the William Jewell college. He is also noted as a writer on legal and political topics; and for years was a curator of the university of Missouri. He was a presidential elector in 1896. Allen, Don Alonzo, soldier, clergyman, evangelist, was born Oct. 33, 1844, in EUisburg, N.Y. At the age of sixteen years he enlisted in the twenty-fourth
regiment of
New ork
volunteer infantry and he served throughout ^-^ the civil war. He then served as a sailor un1P^ |?.i til 1877; and since 1883 has been a clergyman of the methodist episcopal church. He has attained prominence as an evangelist of note in Kansas, Nebraska, Iowa, in South Dakota and Texas. He has filled pastorates in Nevada; then several other western states. He is also a prominent prohibitionist; and was tendered the nomination for congress.
