In 1886 he became justice of the superior court of New York City; and in 1896 became an associate justice of the supreme court. Dugue, Charles Oscar, journalist, lawyer, poet, was born May 1, 1821, in New Orleans, La. In 1852 became editor of a daily paper in New Orleans; and afterward was a member of the bar. He is the author of Essais Poetiques, consisting of descriptions of southern scenery, and occasional poems; two dramatic works on subjects drawn from the romantic legends of Louisiana; and an Indian plot. Duhamel, William, physician, author, was born in 1827 in Maryland. He served as chief physician for ten years to the United States prisons in the District of Columbia. He was author of a treatise on the National Hotel Disease. He died Aug. 15, 1883, in Washington, D.C. Du Hamel, William, journalist, author, was born in 1866 in Newark, Del. Since 1888 he has been editor of the Church Bells of New York City. He is author of First Millennial Faith. Duhring, Julia, essayist, author, was born Feb. 23, 1836, in Philadelphia, Pa. She is the author of Philosophers and Fools; Gentlefolks and Others; Amor in Society; and Mental Life and Culture. Duhring, Louis Adolphus, physician, author, was born Dec. 23, 1845, in Philadelphia, Pa. He is a physician of Philadelphia; and prominent as a dermatologist. He is the author of Atlas of Skin Diseases; Practical Treatise on Diseases of the Skin; Epitome
and Cutaneous Medicine. Since 1876 has been professor of diseases of the skin in university of Pennsylvania. of Skin Diseases;
Duke, Richard Thomas Walker, soldier, congressman, was born June 6, 1822, in Albemarle county, Va. He was colonel forty-sixth regiment, confederate service. He was attorney for the county of Albemarle in 185869; and was a member of the Virginia state legislature. In 1869-73 he was a representative to the forty-first and forty-second congresses. He died July 2, 1898, in Charlottesville, Va. Duke, William, educator, clergyman, author, was born Sept. 15, 1757, in Patapsco, Md. He was the author of A Clew to Religious Truth. He died in 1840 in Elkton, Md.
Dulaney, Woodford Hector, capitalist, railroad president, was born May 16, 1822, in London county, Va. He was several times elected to the general council of the city of Louisville; and has been president of the Elizabethtown and Paducali railroad; the Cumberland and Ohio railroad; and the Ken-
tucky National bank. Dulany, Daniel, statesman, author, was born in July, 1721, in Maryland. He was the author of Considerations on the Propriety of Imposing Taxes on the British Colonies. He died

Dulany, William, soldier. In 1843 he was promoted to a brevet major for meritorious conduct in the Florida war; and was made full major in 1847. He was made brevet lieutenant-colonel in 1847 for gallantry at Chapultepec; and colonel in 1861. He died July 4, 1868, in Beltsville, Md. Duleng, Daniel, statesman, was born in July, 1721, near Annapolis, Md. In 1751 he was a member of the council of Maryland,
and acceded to the act.
