He actively aided in establishing the Fisk university of Nashville, Tenn., which was named for him. In 1886 he was the prohibition candidate for the governorship of New Jersey; and in 1888 was prohibition candidate for the presidency of the United States. For sixteen years ne was president of the board of luaian commissioners. He died July 9, 1890, in New York

Fisk, Ezra, qlergyman, author, was born on Jan. 10, 1875, in Shelburne, Mass. In 1813-33 he was the pastor of the Presbyterian church in Goshen, N.Y. He was the author of An Oration; and Lecture on
the Inability of Sinners. He died Dec. 5, 1833, in Philadelphia, Pa. Fisk, Fidelia, missionary, author, was born May 1, 1816, in Shelburne, Mass. In 1843 she went to Persia as a missionary among the Nestorians, where she labored fifteen years, much of the time as teacher in a female seminary. She was the first prinShe cipal of the seminary at Oroomiah. was the author of Memorial of Mount Holyoke Seminary; Woman and Her Savior in Persia and Recollections of Mary Lyon. She died Aug. 9, 1864, in Shelburne, Mass. Fisk, Franklin Woodbury, educator, college president, was born Feb. 16, 1820, in Hopkinton, N.H. In 1854 he became professor of rhetoric and English literature, in Beloit college, of Wisconsin. He founded and for forty years was professor and president of the Chicago theological seminary. He died July 4, 1900, in Chicago, 111. Fisk, Herbert Franklin, educator, clergyman, was born Sept. 25, IS40, in Stoughton, Mass. He Avas educated at the Wesleyan academy and at Wesleyan university and has received the degrees of A.B., A.M. and LL.D. In 1853-61 he taught in various schools; in 1863-67 he was a teacher of latin and Greek in Cazenovia seminary; in 186768 in the Wesleyan academy at Wilbraham; and in 1868-73 was principal in the
Genesee Wesleyan seminary of Lima, N.Y. In 1805-09 and 1811-15 he was a representative from Vermont to the ninth, tenth, twelfth and thirteenth congresses, when he was appointed one of the judges of the supreme court of Vermont. In 1817-19 he was United States senator. In 1812 he was appointed judge of the territory of Indiana; and in 1817-25 was collector of the port of Alburg. He died Dec. 1, 1844, in Swanton, Vt. Fisk, Jonathan, lawyer, congressman, was bom in Newburgh, N.Y. In 1809-11 and 1813-15 he was a representative from New York to the eleventh and thirteenth congresses and was elected to the fourteenth congress; but resigned to accept the position of United States attorney for the southern district of New York. Fisk, Pliny, missionary, author, was born After 24, 1792, in Shelburne, jMass. traveling extensively in Greece, Egypt, Palestine, and Syria, he joined, in 1825, the mission already established at Beirut, Syria. On the day of his death he completed an English and Arabic Dictionary. He died Oct. 23, 1842, in Syria. Fisk, Samuel, soldier, clergyman, author, was born July 23, 1828, in Shelburne, Mass. He was a congregational clergyman; who served as a soldier in the federal army; and was killed at the battle of the Wilderness. He was the author of Mr. Dunn Browne's Experiences in the Army.
