In 1843-47 he was a representative to the twenty-eighth and twenty -ninth congresses; and in 1851-67 he was senator from Vermont. He died March 38, 1866, in Washington, D.C. Foote, Arthur, musician, composer, was born March 5, 1853, in Salem, Mass. In 1874 he graduated from Harvard college with the degree of A.

In 1886-87 he was an instructor and principal of the Union academy of Morganfield, Ky.; and in 1888-89 was an instructor at Stewart academy of Reading, Pa. In 1889-90 he was principal of the high school at Orwigsburg, Pa.; and the next twelve years was an instructor and principal of a boys' high school at Reading, Pa. Since 1899 he has been superintendent of the public schools of Reading, Pa. He is active in the state and national educational associations; and is a member of the masons, knights templar and other orders. Foot, Samuel Augustus, lawyer, congressman, governor. United States senator, was born Nov. 8, 1780, in Cheshire, Conn. In 1819-21, 1823-25 and 1833-35 he was a representative from Connecticut to the sixteenth, eighteenth and twenty-third congresses; was speaker of the Connecticut house of representatives in 1825-26; and in 1827-33 he was United States senator. In 1834 he was elected governor. He died Sept. 16, 1846, in Connecticut. Foote, Andrew Hull, naval officer, author, was born Sept. 13, 1806, in New Haven, Conn. He was educated in the public and private schools of New England. His father

was Samuel Augustus Foote, known in United States political history as the mover of Foote's resolutions. In 1858 he was placed in command of the

In 1823-25 he was a representative from New York to the eighteenth congress. He died Aug. 1, 1828, in Delhi, N.Y. Foote, Edward Bliss, physician, journalist, author, was born Feb. 20, 1829, in Cleveland, Ohio. In his practice he has made a specialty of chronic diseases. He is editor of Dr. Foote's Health Monthly. He is the author of Medical Common Sense Science in Story; and Plain Home Talks. Foote, Edward Bond, physician, inventor, journalist, author, was born Aug. 15, 1854, in Cleveland, Ohio. He invented and patented a camera, which has become widely known under the name of polyopticon. Foote, Elial Todd, physician, legislator, jurist, was born May 1, 1796, in Gill, Mass. He was a member of the New York legislature in 1820 and 1826-27; associate judge of common pleas in 1818-23; and in 1823-43 was first judge of Chautauqua county. He died Nov. 17, 1877, in New Haven, Conn. Foote, Elisha, laAvyer, jurist, inventor, was born Aug. 1, 1809, in Lee, Mass. In 1864 he was appointed to the board of appeals at the United States patent office; and in 1868-69 was commissioner. He died Oct. 22, 1883, in St. Louis, Mo. Foote, George Anderson, physician, was born Dec. 16, 1835, in Warren county, N.C. He was surgeon in the confederate navy during the civil war; was president North Carolina Medical Society; and contributed valuable articles to medical literature. He died Jan. 25, 1899, in Warrenton, N.C. Foote, Henry Stuart, lawyer, author, was bom Sept. 20, 1800, in Fauquier county, Va. In 1847-53 he was United States senator from Mississippi and was the fifteenth governor in 1852-54. He was the author of
