He is the author of Jeb Hutton; Out of Gloucester; The Seiner; On Tybee Knoll; The Deep Sea's Toll; and The Crested Seas. Connolly, Louise, educator, author, was born July 22, 1862, in Washington, D.C. For fifteen years she was a teacher in the Washington primary and high schools; was institute lecturer from 1897; and since 1902 supervisor of schools of Newark, N.J. In 1906 she became supervising principal public schools system of Summit, Union county, N. J. She is the author of Rational Grammar.
Connoly, Theodore, lawyer, author, was born Dec. 25, 1846, in New Orleans, La. Since 1872 he has practiced law in New York City; and since 1898 has been assistant corporation counsel of New York. He is the author of Connoly's Surrogate Reports; and New York Criminal Report. Connor, Alexander, territorial governor. In 1871 he was territorial governor of Idaho.
Connor, Edmund Sheppard, actor, theatrimanager, was born Sept. 9, 1809, in Philadelphia, Pa. He became noted as a performer of backwoodsman and Indian characters, in several plays written by native dramatists. He was manager of the Arch street theatre of Philadelphia in 1850. He died Dec. 15, 1891 in New York aty. Connor, Henry Groves, lawyer, jurist, wag born July 3, 1852, in Wilmington, N.C. He began the practice of law in Wilson, N.C. In 1877-78 and in 1888-89 he was president of the Detroit academy of medicine; in 1901-02 was president of the Michigan state medical society; and has filled numerous other positions of trust and honor. He is the author of How we Can Obtain and Preserve the Eyesight and Hearing; and other works. Connor, Henry W., state legislator, congressman, was born in August, 1793, in Prince George county, Va. He was aid-decamp of General Joseph Graham in the Creek war; and in 1821-39 he was a representative from North Carolina to the seventeenth to the twenty-fifth congresses. In 1848 he served in the general assembly. He died Jan. 15, 1866, in
North Carolina.
Connor, Patrick Edward, soldier, journalist, founder, was born March 17, 1820, in Ireland. He served in %he Florida war; and also in the Mexican war. In 1863 he was commissioned a brigadier-general; and at the close of the civil war was brevetted major-general. He located the first silver mine in Utah; wrote the first mining law; introduced navigation on the Great Salt lake; built the first silver-lead smelting works; and founded the town of Stockton.

commissions, which he executed with
brilliant energy and entire success. The great financier was a competent judge of men, and in 1881 he formed a partnership with the young broker, under the name of
