Connor retired from Wall street in 1887. Conover, Simon Barclay, physician, .United States senator, was born Sept. 33, 1840, in Middlesex county, N.J. He was appointed assistant surgeon in the army of the Cumberland in 1863. He was a member of the Florida convention which framed the state constitution in 1868; was appointed state treasurer; and was a member of the Chicago convention in 1868. He was elected to the state legislature from the county of Leon, and presided over that body. In 1873-79 he was a United States senator. Conover, Thomas A., naval officer, was born in 1794 in New Jersey. He was promoted to the rank of captain in 1848, and in 1857-58 commanded the squadron on the coast of Africa. In 1862 he was promoted to the rank of commodore; and placed on the retired list, having been in the service fifty-three years, in S. Amboy, N.J.

Conrad, Henry Clay, lawyer, librarian, genealogist, author, was born April 35, 1858, in Bridesberg, Pa. He was elected president of the city council of Wilmington in 1882; and in 1880-90 acted as United States chief supervisor of elections of the district of Delaware; and has been the city solicitor of Wilmington. In 1881-83 he was a member of the Virginia state legislature. In 1895-97 he was solicitor-general of the United States. Qonrad, John, congressman. He was a representative in congress from Pennsylvania in 1813-15. He died in Peimsylvanla. Conrad, Joseph, soldier. He was a distinguished soldier in the union army during the civil war; and attained the rank of brigadier-general. He died July 15, 1897, in Atlantic City, N.J.

Having received directions to found a monastery of his order in the United States in 1873, he embarked for this country and founded the Benedictine monastery of New Engelberg at Conception, Mo., which was erected into an abbey in 1881. In 1885 Father Conrad was chosen as its first abbot. Conrad, Frederick, congressman. In 180307 he was a representative from Pennsylvania to the eighth and ninth congresses. He died in Pennsylvania. Conrad, Frederick William, clergyman, journalist, was born Jan. 3, 1816, in Orwigsburg, Pa. He was editor of the Lutheran Observer of Philadelphia, Pa.; and a trustee of the Lutheran publication society. He was the author of The Lutheran Doctrine of Baptism; Analysis of Luther's Small Catechism; The Evangelical Lutheran Church; The Call to the Ministry; and The Liturgical Question. He died in 1898 in Philadelphia, Pa.
