pronouncing it with the Italian accent. She saw
directly she had committed a blunder, though
Spanish civility suppressed the laugh at her
expense. She. foimd afterwards that the word
she had used, with the ^ ci ' soft^ meant a female
pig. And this was only a specimen of mistakes
hourly committed by all who adventured them-
selves in this unknown tongue.
