Surveyors of the XII. And be it further enafted by the Authority aforefaid, That from and after the nine and twentieth Hishwaysjwhen Day of September next, in every Parifh within the Kingdom of England, Dominion of JVales, and Town of Berwick upon Tweed, the Surveyors and Orderers of the Work for Amendment of the Highways withia their refpeiSlive Parifhes, fliall be yearly chofen and nominated by fuch Perfons as by an Act made in the fecond and third Years of King Philip and Qiieen Mary is appointed, upon fome Day in the fame Week that the Feaft of the Birth of our Lord, commonly-called Chrifimas-Day, fhall be: (2) Which Perfons fo nominated and chofen, fhall take upon them the faid Office, and fliall appoint fix Days for the providing Stones, Gravel and other Materials for the Amendment of and for working in the Highways, ha.ving refpedt to the Seafon of the Year and the Weather, and giving Notice publickly lome convenient Time before the feveral Days; at which Days ail Perfons liable to the feid Work fliall attend and work accordingly. (3') And the faid Surveyors and Orderers fliall make Return of the Defaulters, and every of them, within one Month after every Default made, to fome neighbouring Juftice of the Peace of the fame County; and the faid Juflice fliall prefent the fame at the Quarter-Seffions of the Peace held next after fuch Return made unto him. : (4) And the OiFenders againft this AGc, in all Cafes not particularly direci:ed jn this Act, fhall refpciSively incur the fame Forfeiture, Pains and Penalties, inflicted and appointed by the Laws and Sta-- tutes of this Kingdom now in Force, for the Amending of the Highways, as fully as if they had been par-- ticularly mentioned and impofed in and by this A£t. i ' XIII. And v/hereas in the Counties of Chefter and Lancqfter there are many and fundry great and deep. ' Rivers, which run crofs and through the common and publick Highwaysand Roads v/ithin the faid Coun- ' ties, which many Times cannot be paffed over without Hazard and Lofs of the Lives and Goods of the ' Inhabitants and Travellers within the faid Counties, for want of convenient,, good and fufficient Bridges ' in the faid Highways and Roads; to build and ere£t which there is no Law now in Force:' (2) Therefore be it further enafted by the Authority aforefaid, That for ten Years next following, and no longer, the re- fpeflive jufticesof Peace within the faid refpeftive Counties fliall, upon the Prefentment of the Grand ■ Jury at their refpective General Quarter-Seffions, have Power and Authority by Order or Warrant under the Hands and Seals of all or the major Part of the faid Juftices, being fix at leafl: then prefent, to caufe to be erecSled and builded any new Bridge or Bridges, in fuch Place or Places in any of the faid Highways, over any of the faid Rivers within their refpe&ive JurifdicStions, as they fliall judge fit and neceflary, and fo declare by fuch Order as aforefaid, and likewife to repair or rebuild fuch other Bridges as were demof- lifhed in the late War; (3) and by their faid Order to charge, either their whole refpeftive Counties, or any Hundred or Hundreds within their faid refpeftive Counties, with the eredling and building any fuch Bridge or Bridges, and from Time to Time (as Need fhall require) with the repairing and amending of all or any the faid Bridges; which fliall be alVefied, levied and gathered in fuch Sort, Manner and Form, as the Monies for Repairing of Bridges now in Behig are ufed to be afielTed, levied and gathered by Virtue a2 H. 8. c. 5. of the late Statute in the tv/o and twentieth Year of the Reign of the late King Henry the Eighth, in that Cafe made and provided. - •: XIV. Provided always, and be it enafted by the Authority aforefaid. XIIL - - An Act for Improvement of Tillage and the Breed of Cattle. FOR the further Encouragement of Tillage for the common Good and Welfare of this Kingdom, Be it enacted by the King's molt Excellent Majelly, by and with the Advice and Confent of the Lords. Spiritual and Temporal, and the Commons, in this prefent Parliament aflembled, and by Authority of the fame, That from and after the twenty-fourth Day of ^zwi? which fliall be in the Year of our Lord one ■thoufand fix hundred and feventy, and from thenceforward, It fhall be lawful for all and every Perfon or Perfons, Native or Foreigner, at any Time or Times, to fhlp, lade, carry and tranfport as Merchandize, all forts of Corn and Grain, although the Prices thereof fhall exceed the Rates fet down in one AiSt of this prefent Parliament made in the fifteenth Year of his iMajefty's Reign, intituled, An ASl for the Ertcourage- ment of Trade; the faid A£t, or any other Law, Statute, Ufage, or other Prohibition, to the contrary thereof in any wife notwithftanding; paying for the fame fuch Rates as are to be paid when the fame might have been tranfported by one Aift of this pj-efent Parliament, intituled, A Suhftdy granted to the King of Tonnage and Poundage, and none other. And it is hereby further enacted by the Authority aforefaid. That when the Prices of Corn and Grain, at the Times, Havens and Places, when and where the faid Corn or Grain fhall be imported into this Kingdom, exceed not the Rates hereafter following, there fhall be anfwered and paid for the Cuftom and Poundage thereof thefe Rates : That is to fay, for every Qiiarter of Wheat, when the fame ihall not exceed the Price of three and fifty Shillings and four Pence the Quar- ter,
