WHEREAS there has been of late a much greater Refort into this Kingdom than formerly of Popifh Bifhops, Priefts and Jefuits, and they do very openly, and in infolent Manner, affront . ' the Laws, and daily endeavour to pervert his Majefty's natural-born Subjefts, which has been occa- -' fioned, by negledl of the due Execution of the Laws already in Force : For preventing the further

- tofore, been brought to light, and happily defeated by the wonderful Providence of God ;' Be it enadted
by the King's moft excellent Majefty, by and with the Advice and Confent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this prefent Parliament affembled, and by Authority of the fame. Reward from'and after the five and twentieth Day of March one thoufand and feven hundred, all and every P^r- ^°!. r'J^"^ ^"^ fon and Perfons, who (hall apprehend and take one or more Popifti Biftiop, Prieft or Jefuit, and profecute pritft'orTefuit him or them fo apprehended and taken, until he or they be convidled of faying Mafs or of exercifing any gcc, convifted'of other Part of the Office or Funftion of a Popifti Biftiop or Prieft within thefe Realms, ftiall have and faying Mafs, &c. receive from the Sherift'or Sherifi^s of the County where fuch Conviction fliall be made (without paying any Fee for the fame) for every fuch Offender fo conviiSted, the Sum of one hundred Pounds within four Months after fuch Conviflion, and Demand thereof made, by tendring a Certificate to the faid She- to be paid by the riff or SherifTs, under the Hand or Hands of the Judge or Juftices before whom fuch Conviction fhall be Sheriff, &c. made, certifying the Conviction of fuch Popifti Biftiop, Prieft or Jefuit, and alfo that fuch Popifti Biftiop, Prieft or Jefuit, Popifti Bifhops, Priefts or Jefuits, was or were taken by the Perfon or Perfons claiming the faid Reward : And in cafe any Difpute ftiall happen to arife between the Perfons fo apprehending in cafe of Dif- any Popiih Biftiop, Prieft or Jefuit, touching their Right and Title to the faid Reward, that then the pute about flia- faid Judge or Juftices fo refpedtively certifying as aforefaid, ftiall in and by their faid Certificate di- yng the Reward, reft and appoint the iaid Reward to be paid unto and amongft the Parties claiming the fame, in /"^tbfame "" fuch Share and Proportion as to tlie faid Judge or Juftices fhall feem juft and reafonable ; and if it ftiall happen any fuch Sheriff^ or Sheriffs ftiall die, or be removed, before the Expiration of four Months after fuch Conviftion and Demand made of the faid Reward (not being paid as aforefaid) that then the next fucceeding Sheriff or Sheriffs of the faid County fhall pay the fame, within two Months after Demand, and Certificate brought as aforefaid; and if Default of Payment of the faid Penalty, on SJie^ ^ Sum or Sums of Money fhall happen to be made by any Sheriff or Sherift's, fuch Sherifl-' or Sheriffs, fo nffmaking De- making Default, ftiall forfeit to the Perfon or Perfons to whom fuch Money is due as aforefaid, two hun- '^^^ ^ ^i™^°'* dred Pounds, to be recovered by him or them, or his or their Executors or Adminiftrators, in any of his Majefty's -Courts of Record at IVeJlminJler, by Aftion of Debt, Bill, Plaint or Information, wherein but one Imparlance, and no Effoin, rroteftion or Wager of Law ftiall be allowed, with full Cofts of Suit by him or them expended in the Recovery of the fame. II. And it is hereby further enafted. That all Sheriffs, their Succeflbrs, Executors or Adminiftrators, Sheriffs to' be upon producing fuch refpedtive Certificates, or a Duplicate or Duplicates thereof, ftiall have the Monies repaid by the contained in fuch Certificate paid to them by the Lord Treafurer, or Commiffioners of his Majefty's Treafury. And for a further Remedy againft the growth of Popery, over and beyond the good Laws already made, be it further enadted by the Authority aforefaid.
