And inftead of the Affirmation in "7 & 8 W. 3. fhall make the following Affir- mation. TheAffirmation. ' their Families, and to others requiring their Teftimony, in many Cafes are not fufficiently avoided, by '■ Reafon of Difficulties among the faid Quakers, relating to the Forms of the Declaration, Affirmation^ ' anil Abjuration before mentioned, as the fame are now prefcribed : And whereas it is evident, that the ' faid People called ghtakcrs, have not abufed the Liberty and Indulgence allowed to them by Law, and ' they have given Teftimony of their Fidelity and Affection to his Majefty, and the Settlement of the ' Crown in the Protectant Line, and it is reafonable to give them farther Eafeand Relief:' May it there- foreipleafe your moft Excellent Majefty, that it may be enacted, and be it enacted by the King's moft Excellent Majefty, by and with the Advice and Confent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Com- mons, in this prefent Parliament affembled, and by the Authority of the fame, That in all Cafes, where by Law any Quaker is or fhall be required or permitted to make and fubferibe the Declaration of Fidelity ill the Form prefcribed by the faid firft mentioned Aft, or to make the folemn Affirmation or Declaration in the Form prefcribed by the faid Act of the feventh and eighth Years of the Reign of his faid late Majefty King William the Third, or to take the Effect of the Abjuration Oath in the Form prefcribed by the faid Act of the firft Year of his prefent Majefty's Reign, every fuch <2htaker, fhall inftead of fuch firft mentioned Declaration of Fidelity, make and fubferibe a Declaration of Fidelity in the following. Words, viz. 1 Geo. 1. flat. 2. c. 6. he fhall make the following Declaration of Fidelity. I A. B. do folemnly and fincerely promife and declare, That I will be true and faithful to King George; and do folemnly, fincerely and truly profefs, teftify and declare, that I do from my Heart abhor, deteft and renounce, as impious and heretical, that wicked Doftrine and Pofition, That Princes ex- communicated or deprived by the Pope, or any Authority of the See of Rome, may be difpofed or mur- thered by their Subjects or any other whatfoever. And I do declare, that no foreign Prince, Perfon, Prelate, State or Potentate, hath or ought to have any Power, Jurifdiction, Superiority, Preheminence or Authority, Ecclefiaftical or Spiritual, within this Realm.' And inftead of the folemn Affirmation or Declaration,, in the Form prefcribed by the faid Act of the fe- venth and eighth Years of the Reign of his faid late Majefty King William the Third, every fuch Sha- ker fhall make the folemn Declaration or Affirmation following, viz. B. do felemnly, fincerely and truly acknowledge, profefs, teftify and declare, That King George is lawful and rightful King of this Realm, arid of all other his Dominions and Countries thereunto belonging ; and I do folemnly and fincerely declare, That I do believe the Perfon pretended to be the Prince of Wales, during the Life of the late King James, and fince his Deceafe, pretending tq be, and taking upon himfelf the Stile and Title of King of England, by the Name of Ja?nes the Third, or of Scotland, by the Name of James the Eighth, or the Stile and Title of King of Great Britain, hath not any Right or Title whatfoever to the Crown of this Realm, nor any other the Dominions thereunto belonging ; and I do renounce and refufe any Allegiance or Obedience to him. And I do folemnly promife, that I will be true and faithful, and bear true Allegiance to King George, and to him will be faithful againft all traiterous Confpiracies and Attempts whatfoever, which fhall be made againft his Perfon, Crown or Dignity. And I will do my beft Endeavour to difclofe and make known to King George, and his Succeffors, all Treafons and traterous Confpiracies, which I fhall know to be made againft him or any of them. And I will- be true and faithful to the Succeffion of the Crown againft him the faid James, and all other Perfons whatfoever, as the fame is and ftands fettled by an Act, inti- tuled, An A£i declaring the Rights and Liberties of the SubjcSi, and fettling the Succeffion of the Crown, to the ' late Queen Anne, and the Heirs of her Body, being Proteftants ; and as the fame, by one other Act, ' intituled, An Ac! for the further Limitation of the Crozvn, and better fecuring the Rights andLiberti.es of the ' Subjeel, is and ftands fettled and intailed, after the Deceafe of the faid late Queen, and far Default of 4 Iffue of the faid late Queen, to the late Princefs Sophia, Electorefs and Dutchefs Dowager of Hanover, ' and the Heirs of her Body being Proteftants. And all thefe Things I do plainly and fincerely acknow- ' ledge, promife and declare, according to thefe exprefs Words by r.^e fpoken, and according to the plain ' and common Ser.fe and Underftanding of the fame Words, without any Equivocation, mental Evafion
- or fecret Refervation whatfoever. And I do make this Recognition, Acknowledgment, Renunciation
' and Promife, heartily, willingly and truly. And all Perfons authorized or required to adminifter or tender, either the faid former Declaration of Fi- delity, or the faid former folemn Affirmation or Declaration, or the former Effect of the Abjuration Oath aforefaid, fhall be and are hereby authorized and required to adminifter and tender the fame refpcctively to the faid.People called ^Wfons, in the Words by this Act reflectively appointed.
