Anno vicefimo prlmo Georgi I IL C. 27, 115 Cambrick or French Lawn, and fuch Perfon fliaH difcover upon Oath, before any one or more Jiiftice or fufiices of the Peace, the Perfon or Perfons who fold fuch C;'.mbricks or French Lawns, to fuch Perfon V'earing the fame, fuch Perfon fo difcovering as aforefaid, fhaH be, and is thereby difcharged from all Pe- nalties and Forfeitures inflriSed by the fald Acl ; and that the Perfon or Perfons fo Jelling fuch Can-brick or French Lawns, fliall be liable to the Penalties and Forfeitures laid and infliiSted by the faid A& : And whereas fome Doubts have arifen, or may arife, whether by the Words of the faid recited A€t any Penalty can be inf.icled, either upon the Wearer of any fuch Cambrick or French Lawn, who fhall difcover the Vender or Seller thereof, or upon the Vender or Seller fo difcovercd by the Wearer thereof, in cafe it Ihall appear that the faid Cambrick or French Lawn was fold to fuch Wearer, previous to the aforefaid twenty-fourth Day of June one thoufand feven hundred and forty-eight; by which Means fuch Cambricks and French Lawns may happen to be worn for a great Number of Years, without any Penalty whatfoever laid or in- fli£l;ed, either on the Wearer or Seller thereof, contrary to the true Intent and Meaning of the faid AS, fo evidently advantageous to this Kingdom: And whereas it nwy be difficult for many Perfons to afcertain upon Oath, where or from v/hom iiich Cambricks ox French Lawns were bought, which have been for any confiderable Time in their PoffcfTion :' For the avoiding therefore of pll fuch Doubts and DifSculties as aforefaid, be it enafied and declared ; and it is hereby enacted and declared by the King's moft Excellent Majefty, by and with the Advice and Confent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this ■prefent Parliament Efflemblcd, and by the Authority of the iame. ' fhall difcover, to the Satisfadlion of the Juflice or Juftices, the Vender or Seller of fuch Cambrick or French Lawn, and likewife that the fame was lold by fuch Vender jr Seller after the faid twenty-fourth Day of June one thoufand feven hundred and forty-eight, fo as fuch Vender or Seller be conviiSted, and become liable to the Penalties and Forfeitures laid and infiifted by the faid AcTt, then, and not otherwiie, fuch Wearer fo profecuted fhall be and is hereby difcharged from any Penalty or Forfeiture laid or inflifted by the faid AH ; any thing in this or in the faid Adl to the contrary notv/ithftanding. That in all Cafes where the Offender fhall, at the Time of the Offence committed, or cov.-rt to'^be it the Time of the ConvitSlion, happen to be a Feme Covert, living with her Hufband, the Penalties which levied en the fhould be levied on the Goods and Chatties of fuch Offender, in cafe flie had been tlien unmarried, fliall Goods of tha and may be levied on the Goods and Chatties of her Hufband ; any Law to the contrary notwithflanding. And be it further enacted by the Authority aforefaid, That if any Milliner, Sempflrefs, or other Per- Milliners ma- foil whatfoever, fhall for Flire, from and after the laid tvi^enty- fourth Djy of June one thoufand feven hun- ^.'■"^"i"n" dred and forty-eight, make up any Cambrick or French Lawn for, in or upon any Garment or wearing tile Penalties ** Apparel, fuch Milliner, Sempftrefs, or other Perfon, fliall be liable to the like Penalties and Forfeitures, as the Sellers of Cambrick or French Lawn are liable to, by virtue of the faid Ail: of the eighteenth Year of his Majefty's Reign, to be profecuted and levied, and the faid Penalties and Forfeitures .to be applied in the like Manner, as the feveral Penalties and Forfeitures arc diretSed to be profecuted, levied and applied, by this or the faid in Part recited AQ.. VI. And be further enacted by the Authority aforefaid. That in all Cafes wherein by this Act an Oath QH^'^^."
