XII. And it is hereby ena£led by the Authority aforefaid. That no Fee or Gratuity whatfoever ftiall or No Fee to he may be demanded or taken of any of his Majefty's SubjecSs for receiving or paying the faid Contribution taken, &c. Monies, or any of them, or for any Tallies, or other Receipts concerning the fame, or for iiTuing the faid yearly Fund, or any Part thereof, or for paying the faid Annuities, or any of them ; and that no Fee or Gratuity fhall be demanded or taken for any Transfer of any Sum, great or fmall, to be made in purfuance of this A£t; upon Pain th.it the Officer or Perfon offending, by taking or demanding any Fee or Gratuity upon Penalty of contrary to this Aft, fhall forfeit the Sum of twenty Pounds to the Party grieved, to be recovered with Full =° Cofts of Suit, in any of his Majefty's Courts of Record at Wejminjier. XIII. Provided always, and it is hereby enafted. That the Commiflioners of the Treafury, or any three Treafury to de- or more of them now being, or the High Treafurer or any three or more of the Commiflioners of the Trea- ^"5' Charges, fury for the time being, fhall have Power, and they are hereby authorized to reward all fuch Perfons as fhall '^' be any ways employed in the Execution of this Aft, for their Service, Pains and Labour, and alfo to defray ftich incident Charges as fhall neceflarily attend the fame, out of the faid SurplufTes, ExcefTes or Overplus Monies ; and alfo to appoint fuch Allowances (out of the faid SurplufTes, ExcefTes or Overplus Monies) for the Service, Pains and Labour of the Cafhier or Cafhiers of the faid Governor and Company of the Bank of Enoland, for receiving, paying and accounting for the faid Annuities made payable by this Aft; and alfo for the Service, Pains and IVouble of the Accomptant General of the faid Governor and Company for per- forming the Duty and Trufl incumbent on him by this Aft, as they fhall think juft and reafonable : All which Allowances hereby impowered to be made, as aforefaid, in refpeft of the Service, Pains and Labour of any OfKcer or Officers of the faid Governor and Company of the Bank of England, fhall be for the Ufa and Benefit of the faid Governor and Company, and at their Difpofal only ; any thing herein contained to the contrary notwithftanding. _ XIV. Provided alfo, and it is hereby enafted by the Authority aforefaid. That at any Time, upon one ciaufeofRe. Year's Notice to be printed in the London Gazette, and affixed upon the Royal Exchange in London, by Au- demption, thority of Parliament, at any of the Half-yearly Feafl Days for Payment of the faid Annuities, and upon Repayment by Parliament of the Principal Sum of one million, by Payments not being lefs than five hun- dred thoufand Pounds at a Time, for which the faid Annuities fhall be payable to fuch refpeftive Perfons or Corporations as fhall be intitled to the fame Annuities ; and alfo upon full Payment of all Arrearages of the fame Annuities ; then, and not till then, the faid Annuities fhall ceafe and determine, and be under- ffood to be redeemed ; and from and after fuch Redemption, the Monies arifing by the faid SurplufTes, Ex- cefTes or Overplus Monies of the Fund, commonly called the Sinking Fund, fhall not be ifTued or applied to any Ufe or Purpofe, other than fuch Ufes and Purpofes as have been direfted by any former Aft or Afts of Parliament in that Behalf; any thing in this or any former Aft or Afts of Parliament to the contrary not- withftanding : And that any Vote or Refolution of the Houfe of Commons, fignified by the Speaker in Writing, to be inferted in the London Ga'z.ette, and affixed on the Royal Exchange in London, as aforefaid, fliall be deemed and adjudged to be'fufficient Notice within the Words and Meaning of this Aft. PR. ■ WHEREAS the Parifh of Saint 'John in the Borough o^ Soidhwari in the County of Surry, is fituate between London Bridge and his Majefiry's Dock Yard and Viftualling Office at Deptford, and alfo the Eaji India W arehoufe at Rotherhithe : And whereas by virtue of an Aft made rnd pafTed in the laft Sef- fion of Parliament, (intituled, AnASlfor opening andmaking a nezu Road from the Ea/l End ofNewfircet in the Parijh of Saint John Southwark, to andthrough the feveral Places therein mentioned; and for keeping the [aid Road in Repair for the future) a new Road is now opened through the Parifhes of Saint Mary Magdalen Bernwndfcy, Saint Mary Rotherhithe, and Saint Nicholas and Saint Paul Deptford, for the better Conveni- ence of his Majcfty's Subjefts in paffing and repaffing to and from London Bridge, and the Places before- mentioned : And whereas the Accefs to fuch new Road, through the faid Parifli of Saint fohn, is now very dangerou: in the Night-time, for want of proper Lights, and a well regulated Watch : And whereas a proper Provifion for that Purpofe would not only be a great Security to .the Perfons and Properties of all his Majefty's Subjefts, paffing and repaffing to and from Z)^/i//ar^ DaCi^ and the other Pl.ices aforefaid, in the Night-time; but alfo would be a great Safeguard againft Fires that might deffroy great Qiiantities of Naval Stores always repofited in Warehoufes on the Banks of the River Tljamcs in thofe Parts ; and would
