HE RE AS by an Aft made in the twenty-third Year of the Reign of his prefent Majefty, inti- tuicd, An ASi for the Encouragement of the Britifh White Herring Fifliery, after irripov/ering his Majefly, his Heirs and Succeffors, by Letters Patent under the Great Seal oi Great Britain, to incorpo- rate fundry Perlbns in the faid Act named, and fuch other Bodies and PerforfS as in the faid A£t are men- tioned, to be one Body Politick and Corporate, by the Name of 57?^ Society of tlis Free Britifh Fifhery, for the Purpofe of carrying on and improving the /JriZz/A "W hite Herring Fifheries, and to impower the (iid Society, by a voluntary Subfcription, to raife the Sum of five hundred thoufand Pounds, to be the Capital Stock of the faid Society ; it is, amongft other 1 hings enafted, That for an Encouragement to fuch Per- fons as fliould become Subfcribers to the Stock for carrying on the faid Fifheries, that the Sum of three Pounds by the Year for each hundred Pounds which fhould be adually employed in the faid Fifhery, and proportionably for any greater or lefier Sum, fhould be paid to the Proprietors of the faid Stock, for and during the Space of fourteen Years from the Date of their Charter, out of theCuftoms, by the Re- ceiver Genera! of his Majefty's Guftoms, by equal half-yearly Payments, provided that the faid Society fnould employ the Sum of one hundred thoufand Pounds, at leaft, in the faid Fifheries, within the Space of eighteen Months after the Date of fuch Subfcription ; and it is, by the faid A£t, ena<Sed, That no Transfer fhould be made of any of the Stock or Share of or in the faid five hundred thoufand Pounds, for the Space of five Years from the Date of the faid Charter, but that the fame fhould be abfolutely void to all Intents and Purpofes whatfoever ; provided that it fliould be lawful for the Executors, and Admi- nifcrators, or Devifees, of any Perfon or Perfons who fnould happen to die poffefied of, or interefled in, any fuch Stock or Share of or in the faid five hundred thoufand Poundr, and alio for theAffignees under any Commiffion of Bankrupts, to transfer fuch Stock or Shares, and difpofe of the Produce thereof in fuch manner as they might by Law difpofe of any other EfFefts of fuch TeiVator, Liteflate, or Bankrupt; and as a further Encouragement to all Perfons to engage in the faid White Herring Fifheries, a Bounty of thirty Shillings per Ton is by the faid A£t given and made payable as therein mentioned, to the Owner or Owners of all decked Veflels, from twenty to eighty Tons Burthen, which fliould be built after the Commencement of the faid A6t, for the Ufe of the faid Fiflieries, whether by the faid Society, or any other Perfon or Perfons, in Rdanner, and under the Regulations, and upon fuch Conditions, as in the faicJ A£l are after-mentioned, fuch Bounty to be paid yearly, during the Space of fourteen Years from the Commencement of the faid Aif, and no longer, upon conforming to the Regulations of the faid Act: And whereas, amongft other Qualifications by the faid Act made necelTary for obtaining a Licence and Authority for BulTes or Vellels to proceed on the faid Fifhery, Oath is to be made by fuch Perfons as in the faid Act mentioned, that fuch Buffes or Veffels fhall proceed either to BraJJey Soiaui in S/y.ti.-ird, and be at the Rendezvous of the fiid Fifliery there, on or before the eleventh Day of Jure, and fhali not flioot or wet their Nets before the thirteenth Day of the faid Month of Jan.-, and fhall continue follow- ing and fifhing amongft the Shoals of Herrings as they move Southward, to the firft Day oi Octobei^ ; or fliall proceed to CamphellToivn in Argyiejbire, and be at the Rendezvous of the faid Fifiieries on or before the firit Day of Septe?nber, and fliall continue fiftiing among the Shoals of Herrings as they move, to the thirty-firft 13ay of D(?ir.'?K/'i;r, unlefs they fliall have foon-r completed their Loading of Filh ; and that . on the Return of fuch VelTel into any Port of Great Britain for her Difcharge, Oath fhall be made by the Mafter of fuch Vefiel, that fuch Veilel vv'as at one of the Places bcforementioned, at the Time appointed by the faid Act, and had not fince been on any other Voyage, or purfued any other Defign or V^iew of Profit, and that they did remain fifliing according to the Dire£tion of the faid A61 : And whereas by another Adt: made in the twenty-fixth Year of the Reign of his faid Majefly, intituled. White Herring Fifhery ; and for regulating the faid Fifi)ery according to the Calendar noiv in Ufe; andfor other Purpofcs therein mentioned; it is ennfted, That the Oath and Oaths by the faid firft-mentioned Act required to be taken with refpedl to the Days thereby- appointed for the Pvcndezvous of the faid Society's BulTes or Veffels, and for the Commencement and Duration of the faid Fiflieries, fliould be varied and made conformable to the Calendar then and nov/ in Ufe in thcfe Kingdoms ; that is to fay, That the Oath to be made in order to the procuring a Licence to proceed on the faid Fifhery, fhould import that it is the firm Purpofe and determined Relolution of the Perfons making fuch Oath, that the Bufs orVeii'el applying for Licence and Authority to proceed on the faid Fifliery, fhould proceed either to BraJJey Sound in S/^etland, and he at the Rendezvous of the faid Fifhery there on or before the twenty-fecond Day of 'June, and fhould continue fifiiing as in the faid A<ft mentioned, to the twelfth T):iY oi' Oiilober, or fnould proceed to Campbell Toznn in Argylefhire, and be at the Rendezvous of the faid Fifheries on or before the twelfth Day of September, and fhould continue fifh- ing to the eleventh Day oVJanuary, unlefs they fhould have fooner completed their Loading of Fifh ; arid that the Oath by the faid firlt-mentioned A£l required to be made by the refpeftive Mailers of the faid Builes or Vellels, at their Return into Port, for their Difcharge, might and fhould from theCommence- ' mcnt 3
