Dice, which during the faid Term (hould be made fit for Sale or Ufe in Great Britain, or imported the Duties following ; that is to fay, For every Pack, of fuch Cards, the Sum of fix Pence ; and for every Pair of fuch Dice, the Sum of five Shillings, to be paid by the Makers or Importers there f re- fpedtively ; and it was thereby enafted, That fuch Duties upon luch Cards and Dice imported fliou'd be levied and brought into the Exchequer, in fuch Manner and Form, and under fuch Penal'ties and Forfeitures as any her Majefty's Cuftoms or Duties on Subfidy Goods inwards, were by any Law then in Force to be levied and brought into her Majefty's Exchequer ; and it was thereby enacted That all Makers of Playing Cards or Dice made in Great Britain, before they ft-iould refpeitively begin to make any fuch Cards or Dice, (hould give or fend to the Commiffioners for managing the Duties on ftampt Vellum, Parchment and Paper (who are by the faid Ad appointed to manage th^ faid Duties on Cards and Dice) or to their Officers, fuch Notice as by the faid A& is diredfed, and (hould permit the proper Officers for the faid Duties, to enter any Houfe or Place for making Cards or Dice and take an Account thereof, and fhould not remove or fuffer to be removed the°fame from fuch Houfe or Place, until the Mark and Seal devifed to denote the charging the faid Duties, fhould be put on the faid Cards and Dice refpedively ; and that the Makers of luch Cards and Dice (hould make an Entry, and clear the Duties owing from them refpedively, without Fraud or Concealment in fuch Manner, and at fuch Times, as by the faid A6t is direifed, upon fuch Pain, and under fuch Penalties and Forfeitures as are thereby inflided for any fuch Offence, to be recovered in Manner as by the faid A6t is direcled : And whereas, for the better fecuring the Duties on playino- Cards and Dice it was by an Aft made in the tenth Year of the Reign of Queen Anne, intituled, °v^« A'J fcr layiiil feveral Duties upon all Sope and Paper made in Great Britain, or imported into the fame; and upoii chequered' and Jlriped Linens imported ; and iipon certain Silks, Callicoes, Linens a?id Stuffs, printed, painted or llained ■ and upon feveral Kinds ofjlamptlfellum, Parcht?ient and Paper; and upon certain printed Papers, Pam- for "the Stamp Duties^ by Licences for Marriages, and oiherivife ; mdforRelTef'ofPerfinsu'holM^^^ claimed their Lottery Tickets in due Time, or have lojl Exchequer Bills or Lottery Tickets ; and for bor- rozving Money upon Stock {Part of the Capital of the South-Sea Company) for the Ufe 'of the Publ'ck further enadted, That during the Continuance of the faid Duties, no Playing Cards or Dice (hould'b' fold or expofed to Sale, or uled in playing in any publick Gaming-houfe, unlefs the Paper and Thread incloiing, or which Hiould have mclofed the fame, (hould have been refpec^ively fealed and ftampt or marked, according to the faid former Adt in that Behalf, and unlefs one Card in each Pack or Par el of Cards fold, fliould be fo marked or ftampt on the fpotted Side thereof, with fuch Mark or StaiTip as the faid Commiffioners ihould dired or appoint, und.r fuch Penalties and Forfeitures as by the faid Adt are inflidfed, to be recovered in fuch Manner as in the faid Adf is diredfed • ' And whereas Provifion was' made by the laft-mentioned Adt for preventing the Forgery of the Seal" Stamp or Mark, provided to denote the Payment of the faid Duty, and tor obligino- the Makers of Cards and Dice to give due Notice of their Intention to make the fame, and for^'prohibitino- the Removal of the Materials being to be wrought, for or towards the making of Cards or Dice "untl the fame ftiall have been completely made mto Cards or Dice, or the Duties for the Cards or Dice therewith intended to be made, ftiall be paid or iecured, and for extending to every Part of Great Britain, the Adt made in the third and fourth Years of King EowARo^the Fourth, prohibitino- the Importation of Playing Cards or Dice into England or Wales, and for declaring 'what Pieces of Ivoiy, Bone, cr other Matter made or ufed for any Game or Play, with any Letter, Fioure or other Mark thereupon, to denote any Chance or Chances, (hall be deemed to be Dice and lor 'im- powering any Officer appointed by the faid Commiffioners, to enter into any Houfe or Place where Cards and Dice fliall be made, fold or expofed to Sale, or fufpedted to be privately made or into any publick Gaming-houfe, Room or Place, and there to fearch for Cards and Dice not duly fealed, marked or ftampt, and tor encouraging the Exportation of Cards and Dice into forei<rn Parts ' F whereas by an Adt made in the fixth Year of the Reign of his late Majefty King 'Geouge" the Firft, ^l^flm<:d, An ^a for preventing Frauds and Abufes in the Publick Revenues of Excife, Cujloms, Stamp-Dutics, Pojl-Office, and Houje-Moncy, a Penalty is inflicted on all Perfons who {: fraudu- lently cut, tear, or get oft", any Mark or Stamp, m relpedf whereof or whereby any Duties arc pay- able, o; are denoted to be paid or payable on Playing Cards, or Ihall fine, fquare, or new Spot, any Dice which have been lold or played with, or (hall fraudulently cnclofc any Parcel or Pack of Playing Cards, in any (Xiifide Paper, duly fealed and ftampt, the fame having been once made ufe of tor the Purpoies aioiclaid, or fliall lell or expole to Sale, any Playing Cards, the fame not be- ' ing at the Time of fiich felling or cxpoiing to Sale, adlually ftampt on the fpotted or painted Side,' and nlfo inclofed in Paper or I hread (caled and ftampt as by the faid KSi made in the tenth Year' of the Reign of Qiieen Anne is diredlcd ;
