XXII. 1804, Henry (Tudor), Duke of Cornwall and Duke of York to 2nd s. but h. ap. of King Henry VII, was b. 28 Juue 1401 and was 1509. on IS Feb. 1503/4, under the name of " Henry, only son and heir of the King," cr. Prince of Wales and KARL OF CHESTER^) at the time of bis Father's death, at which date, 2S Jan. 1 5 4tj/7, he, at the age of 10 years, ascended the throne as Edward VI. XXIII. 1010, Henry Frederick (Stuart), "Duke of Cornwall and to [also] Di'KE of Rothsay in Scotland, eldest son of the King," 1G12. i c. of King James I., was b. 19 Feb. 1593/4, and was. on 4 .lime 1610, cr. in Pari. Prince of Wales and KARL OF CHESTER, which dignities by patent of even date were confirmed " sibi et hcredibus mis Ilegibus Anglhe." XXIV. 1C1G, Ciiarles (Stuart), " Prince of Great Britain [sic], Duke to of Cornwall and York and [also] Duke of Albany in Scotland, sou 1C25. of the King," i.e. 3rd but 1st surv. s. and h. ap. of King James L, was b. 19 Nov. 1600, and was, on 4 Nov. 1616, cr. Prince of Wales and EARL OF CHESTER, with rem. to his heirs, Kings of England. On 27 March 1625 he ascended the throne as Charles I., when all his lumoura merged in the Crown. " A note to Ulachtmic's Commentaries (vol i, p. 224, edit. 1844) states, on the authority of Hume, who cites Burnet, that Queen Maiy and Queen Elizabeth were cr., by their father Henry VHL, Princesses of Wales, each of them at the time (the latter after the LI legitimation of Wary) being hen- presumptive to the Crown. Mary is said by another writer to have been declared heir of the realm and PlUNt'ESS oi-' Wales, and to have governed the Principality, but there appears to be no founda- tion for any of these statements."
