James Hamilton, s. and h. ap, of James (Hamilton), I 1617 lst ^ AEL 0P Abercorn [ s 0i u J Marion, da. of Thomas (Boyd), 5th LoiiD Boyd [S.], was, at the age of about 13 years, and in the lifetime of his father and grandfather, cr., 8 Mav 1617 (the Privy Seal being dat. 18 Oct. 1616) LORD HAMILTON, BABON OF STRABANE, co. Tyrone [I.J, with rem. to the heirs male of the body of his father. He soon afterwards, by the death of his father, 23 March 1617/S, became EABIi of AbkBCOBK, &c. [S.] He, with consent of the King, resigned his Irish peerage, 11 Nov. 1633, in favour of his yr. br., Claud Hamilton, on whom the Irish property had been settled. He d. about 1670. Claud Hamilton, jr. br. of the above, and in whose favour the Irish peerage had been resigned in 1633 as above mentioned, was cr., 14 Aug. 1634 (Privy Seal 7 May 1631). It is, of course, questionable how far such a proceeding, which would undoubtedly have been valid in the case of a Scotch peerage, availed with a peerage of Ireland.
