She m.,2 June 1-192 (being bis tot wife) ISir Charles SOMERSET who was 3tyled in her right Lord Herbert and who in 149b' was elected K.G. He is generally stated to have been cr. by patent, 26 Nov. 1506, " BARON HERBERT OF KAGLAND, CHEP- STOW, AND SOWER," but "no enrolment of this patent nor any Privy Seal nor Signed Bill (among the Chancery series) has been found bearing on the creation."( a ) He was, however, sum. to Part as Lord Herbert by writs dated 17 Oct. (1509), 1 Hen. VIII., and 28 Nov. (1511), 3 Hen. VIIL, directed " Caroh Somerset tie Herbert, CMvaler." He was cr., 1 Feb. 1513/4, EARL OF WORCESTER. The suo jure Baroness d. probably about 1514. He d. 15 April 1526. Both were bur. in St. George's chapel, Windsor. Set fuller account of him under "Worcester" Earldom, a: 1514. IV, 1514? 4- HBNBT (Somerset), Lord Herbert, s. and h., 6. about 1499 ; sue. his mother in that Barony probably about 1514. He sue. his father 15 April 1526, as Earl ok Worcester, with which dignity (one in tail male) this Barony (iu fee) has ever since continued united. Montgomery, s. and h. of Richard Herbert, of Lysmawr, co. Montgomery, by Magdalen, da. of Sir Richad Newport, of High Ercall, Salop, was b. 3 March 15S2/3, at (the house of his grandmother, Lady Newport) Eytou-on-Severn, Salop; sue. his father in Oct. 1596, having a few months before mat. at Oxford (Univ. Coll.) May 1596. He was dis- tinguished as a philosophical, historical and classical writer. (*) KB. (at the coronation) 24 July 1603. He served as a volunteer in 1614 in the forces of the Prince of Orange. From 1619 to 1624, he was Ambassador to Paris, living there in great state and incurring vast expenses. He was cr. 31 Dec. 1624, BARON" HERBERT OF CASTLE ISLAND^) alias OF THE CASTLE OF THE ISLAND OF KERRY [I.], being, on 7 May 1629, cr. BARON HERBERT OF CHIRBURY, co. Salop.
