1686. before July 1624 ; was mini. 1 Sep. 1638, but m. before 27 Jan. 1648/0, Francis (I.KNN.Utn), LORD Dackb, who sue. to that title, 20 Aug. 1630, and d. 12 May 1662, aged 43, being bur. at Chevening, co. Kent. She m. secondly David Wai.tkb. of Godstow, in Woolvercott, co. Oxon, Lieut Geu. of the Ordnance and a Groom of the Bedchamber, who </. R.p. 22 April 1679, aged 68, and was bur. at Wolvercott. M.I. She was, some 18 mouths later, raised to the peerage, as above. She d. in St. Paul's, C'ovent Garden, July 1686, and was bur. at Chevening afsd., wheu her life peerage became extinct. Pensioner to James L and Charles t. ; Knighted at Oatlands, 3 July 1622 ; euc. his eldest br., Sir Philip Sherard. in the family estates, 23 April 1624, and was cr. 10 July 1627, BARON SHERARD OF LEITRIM, co. Leitvim [I.] He m. in or before 1621 Abigail, the childless widow of Henry Tbksbam, 1st da. and coheir of Cecil Cave, by Anne, da. and h. of Anthony Kennkt, of Greenwich. He d. 1 and was bur. 5 April 1640, at Stapleford, aged 52. Will (no date) pr. 2 May 1640. Imp p. mortem 29 May 1640. Midx. ; mat. at Oxford (St. John's Coll.), 4 June 1639 ; sue. to the peerage [I.J, 1 April 1610 ; M.P. for Leicestershire, in six Paris., 1078-81, 1685-87, and 1689-95 ; was attainted by the Irish Pari, of 1689 but subsequently restored. He m. (lie. Kac. 8 March 1660/1), Elizabeth, da. and h. of Sir Robert Chhistophkb, of Alford, co. Lincoln, by (— ), da. of (— ) Smeatk. He d. 30 and was 6ur. 31 Jan. 1699/1700, «i Stapleford. Will dat. 1 Jan. 1696, to21 Dec 1699, pr. 2 Feb. 1699/1700. His widow d. 17 and was bur. 31 Dec. 1713, there, in her 73d year. (•) See vol. vi, p. 474 (in addenda) as to Peerages conferred on women. It may be noted that many of them as this lady in 1680 ; ViscountesB Beacouslield ia 1868 ; and Viscountess Hambleden in 189 1, had been the wives of two husbands. (h) She was of " unbounded benevolence " and restored the churches of Staple- ford and Whissendiue, having considerable antiquarian taste. A portrait at her, when 22, aa aUo one of her husband, and of their son, Rennet, was at Stapleford, when J. Nichols wrote his " Leicestershire."
