By his second wife he bad a son, 6. 23 Dec, 1696, who d. an infant ( c ) Macky speaks of him, when turned 50, that " he doth not want sense, but by reason of a defect in his speech wants elocution," whereupon Dean Swift comments that " he looked and talked like a very weak man, but, it was said, he $pnlce nil in council." Macky adds that he "is very honest man himself, but very suspicious of everybody that is not bis party . . . from a good estate is become very poor and much in debt." The Earl of Ailesbury ["Memoirs"] says that " that poor-headed Earl had a reasonable paternal estate but entailed, so he cut down all the vast fine woods, ruined the mansion house, and took money by advance on this estate and spent it ; his maternal estate, upwards of £3,000 per annum, he eat up absolutely and all Bold. ( d ) Their mar. lie, 21 Nov. 1683, is at Worcester, he of Old Swiuford, co. Wore, aged 40, widower, Bhe of Dudley, aged 20, spinster.
