[Jorrx (de t,a Pole), Earl of Lincoln, 1st p. ;m.l h. ap., who, when about 3 years old, had been so cr. v. p., 1 3 March 1467. He is said to have been declared by his uncle, Richard III. to be next heir, failing issue of that King's body, to the Crown. Hod. v. p. and s.p., being slain on the side of the insurrectionists, 16 June 1487, at the battle of Stoke, when the Earldom oj Lincoln became extinct. Soon after the marriage in 1501 of Prince Arthur, he left the realm without leave, and being suspected of duloynlly. was surrendered, by his cousin, the Duke of Burgundy, to the King and attainted^ 1 ') iu Pari. (/lot. Purl, vi., 515) Jan. 1503/4 whereby all his honours became forfeited. After having been a prisoner in the Tower for more than 7 years, he was, when his br. Richard joined the French service (without any further proceedings against him) beheaded 011 Tower Hill 5 April 1513, aged about 47. He d. s.p.m.(K), and was bur. at the Minories without Aldgate. His widow, by her will pr. 15 May 1515, directs her burial to be there. _(*) This is the date assigned by G. F. Beltz in his " Order of the Garter," but see liis note thereon, as it contradicts the Windsor tables, where the Duke is placed as successor to his father, Duke William (who d. 1450), in the 7th stall. VI. 457) the King granted to him [for £5,000] a portion of the forfeited lands of his elder brother John, Earl of Lincoln, in consideration of which he surrendered his estate of Duke, &c. (*] Ry the description of " Edmund, late Earl of Suffolk, otherwise called Edmund de la Pole, Karl of Suffolk, Knt."
