He was b. 5 Dec. 1758, at Berwick-upon-Tweed, and bap. there 2 Jan. 1759 ; entered the 3d Foot Guards 1775, of which he became Lieut. -Col. in 1786. He sue. to the peerage 1 Feb. 1786, but d. unni. (within a year) 15 Feb. 1787, aged 28, in Grosvenor sq., after a lingering illness.**) Will pr. Feb. 1787. V. 1787. o. Midx., which Vere (who d. 2 Oct. 1781, aged 82) was 3rd son of the 1st Duke. He was *. 3 Jnue 1740 ; was M.P. for Thetford, 1761-68 ; for Aldborough, 176S-74 ; tut, to the peerage, on his father's death, 1 Oct. 1781, as llaron Vere of Hanworth, and sue. on the death of his cousin, 15 Feb. 17S7, as Duke of Saint Albans, Sec. He m., 4 May 1763, at St. Geo. Han. Sq., Catharine, da. of William (I'onsonby), 2d Karl ok Besshorouuh [I.], by Caroline, da. of William (Cavendish), 3d Duke of Devonshire. She, who was 4. 14 Oct. and bap. 7 Nov. 1712 at St. Marylebone, d. of cancer in the breast, 4 Sep. 1789, and was bur. 14 at Hanworth a/sd. Adinon. Aug. 1793. He d. in Mansfield street, 9 Feb. 1802 in his 62d year, and was bur. at Hanworth. Will pr. 1802. VI. 1802. G. He m. firstly, 9 July 1788, at Mayfair Chapel (reg. St. Geo. Han. Sq.), Mary, da. of John Moses, of Hull, by Margaret, da. of Sir Thomas Cave, Bart. She d. s.p.m. (as Countess of Burford) 18 Aug. 1S00, at Pauls Waldeu, Herts. He m. secondly, 15 Aug. 1802 (spec, lie.) in Great George street, Hanover square, Louisa Grace, 3d. da. of Louisa, suo jure Countess of Dysaht [S], by John Manners, of Grantham, co. Lincoln. He rf. suddenly of apoplexy, 12 Aug. 1815, in his 50th year, at Stratford place, Marylebone. His widow, who was b. 1777, d. 19 Feb. 1816, 3 hours after the death of her infant sou, the 7th Duke (at the house of Mrs. Dalrymple, in Portman square), both being bur. 11 March at Hanworth afsd. Will or admon. 1816. VII. 1815. 7. Aubrey (Beauclerk), Duke of Saint Albans, &<•., only s. and h., by second wife. He was b. 7 April 1S15, and bap. 22 May at St. Marylebone. He sue. to the peerage 12 Aug. 1815 ; and d. 19 Feb. 1816, as above, and was bur. at Hanworth. VIII. 1816. 8. William (I'.eauclerk), Duke of Saint Albans, &e., uncle and h., being 2d s. of the 5th Duke. He was 6. 18 Dec. 1766, at St. Marylebone; entered the Navy, 1782, becoming Lieut., 1788; stgled Lord William Beauclerk, 1787—1816 ; sue. to the peerage, 19 Feb. 1816. He m. firstly, 20 July 1791, Cliarlotte,', b ) da. of the Kev. Robert Carter Thelwall, of Redbourne, co. Lincoln, by Charlotte, da. of Sir Henry Nklthohfe, 5th Bart. She d. s.p. 19 Oct. 1797. He m. secondly, 4 March 1799, at Little Grimsby, co. Lincoln, Maria JennetU, da. of John Nklthohfe, of Little Grimsby Hall, co. Lincoln, by Mary. da. of Robert Ckachokt, of Hackthorne, in that county. She d. 17 Jan. 1822. Her admon. Aug. 1827. He d. at his house in St. James' square 17 July 1825, aged 58. Will pr. Nov. 1825. (») There is a very rare work (pp. 234, 8vo.), privately printed in 1785, entitled " Narrative of the conduct of that illustrious Peer, the Duke of St. AibauB, to his friend, Gen. Plaiistow," &c. () Through her the property of Redbourne Hall, co. Lincoln, came into this family and it still (1895) continues to be the principal seat of the Dukes of St. Albans.
