Leicester, receiving knight- hood on 28 June in that year. He was a zealous Royalist and gave con- siderable aid to the King. On 31 Oct. 1643, he was cr. "BARON CARRINGTON OF WOTTON, co. Warwick," and, a few days after- wards, on 4 Nov. 1643 was cr. "VISCOUNT CARRINGTON OF BURFORD " [i.e. BARREFORE] in the Province of Connaught [I.].^) (=>) The order of the Court had been that the office should be filled in turn by the Earl of Ancaster, the Marquess Cholmondeley, and the Earl Carrington.
