Preamble. Whereas, epidemic cholera prevailed during the year eighteen hundred end enty-three in various parts of the United States, especially . in the vahtexof the Mississippi, causing a. deplorable mortality; and whereas it is highly important that. whenever such epidemics occur, the facts concerning the spread of the disease and its mode of propagation should be ascertained as fully as possible, with a view to the prevention or limitatiourof future outbreaks, therefore ~ 4 Resolved by the~Senate and House of Representatives of the United States Memeal omcer of of America in Congress assembled, That the Secretary of War be, and g5£l*mg°*°i;’°u?; he is hereby, authorized and directed to detail one medical onicer of the mo uw mugs of Army, who shall, during the present year, under the direction of the epidemic cholera.
