Petri, of the State of Illinois, in recognition of his heroic and successful eiibrts in rescuing from starvation and impending death a train of emigrants snowed in between the Sierra Nevada and Trinity Mountains in the months of November and December, eighteen hundred and fortymiue, and in pay- ment of the expenses and losses incurred by him in the same.
