Mining investigations in Alaska : For investigations and the dis- semi natio n of infor mati on wi th a view to i mprov ing condi tions in the mining, quarrying, and metallurgical industries as provided in the Act authorizing additional mining experiment stations, approved March 3, 1915 (U. S. C., title 30, sec. 8), and to provide for the inspection of mines and the protection of the lives of miners in the Territory of Alaska, including personal services, equipment, supplies, and expenses of travel and subsistence, $11,460 ; Operating mine rescue cars and stations : For the investigation and improvement of mine rescue and first-aid methods and appli- ances and the teaching of mine safety, rescue, and first-aid methods, including the exchange in part payment for, operation, maintenance, and r epair of m ine rescu e tru cks, and motor -prop elle d pas senge r- carrying vehicles, the expenditure for the purchase of passenger- carrying vehicles not to exceed $4,200, the construction of temporary structu res an d the repair , main tenanc e, and operat ion of mine rescue cars and G overn ment -owne d min e re scue stati ons a nd a ppurt enanc es thereto, personal services, traveling expenses and subsistence, equip- ment, and supplies ; travel and subsistence, and other incidental expenses of employees in attendance at meetings and conferences held for the purpose of promoting safety and health in the mining and allied industries ; the purchase and exchange in part payment therefor of cooks' uniforms, goggles, gloves, and such other articles or equipment as may be necessary in the operation of mine rescue cars and stations, for the erection, at a cos t not to exceed $5 00, of a garage at Jellico, Tennessee, including not to exceed $18,940 for personal services in the District of Columbia, $359,520 : Provided, That of this amount not to exceed $500 may be expended for the purchase and bestowal of trophies in connection with mine rescue and first-aid contes ts ; Mines Bureau . 1347 Official Gazette .
