A WISH.
When the sweet spring-time comes,And violets bloomLay me at rest,Place my fav'rite flowers.Only, on my breast. My aching heart beneath. At last so still, My weary heart, O' God,Bowed to thy will.
O why does the heart break? At last the tired brainGives way beneath the allThe tiring strain:So when the flowers bloom, andAll seems full of lifeLay me at "rest" for IAm weary of the strife.
And in the spring-time sweet,When all nature seemeth glad,Lay me at "rest" for IOf all, am sad.My life, my hopes, my ev'ry thought. No blossoming promise gives,Lay me at rest, O let me dieWhen all else lives!
Father in HeavenSo kind to one and all,That heedeth even whenThe sparrows fall,O take me "home;" I knowNo love but thee,My hope of rest isOnly HeavenBlessed Eternity.
