IN DREAMS.
Thinking of you my darlingAll through the weary dayAnd the thought of you, my darlingIs wearing my life away.O for the days that are past, dear,Days from all sorrow free,The words that you said to me then, dearWere as a low, sweet song to me.
The purple shadows are deep'ningOver the distant hill,And the thought of you, my dear oneLeaves in my heart a long, sad thrill. You are here beside me my darlingHolding me fast by the hand.
Together at last! My darling,In this far distant land!Away from all sorrow and care, dear,Was there ever a land like thisUnknown before, so real now,Ah, I never e'en dreamed of such bliss!
The crimson shadows are breakingOver the distant hill,I awaken! The dream is over,And the low, low, small voice is still. And you're no longer by my side, dear,Alas! I am alone again,Back once more to the old lifeIn all its realistic pain.
