THE LOWEST PLACE.
NOT that I may be chiefest, Lord,
But that I may obey
More closely Thy most sweet commands.
Teach me to serve, I pray.
But that I may obey
More closely Thy most sweet commands.
Teach me to serve, I pray.
Not that I may be honored more
Who am indeed the least,
I would the lowest place like one
Grace-bidden to the feast;
Who am indeed the least,
I would the lowest place like one
Grace-bidden to the feast;
But that Thy smile, my blessed Lord,
Might reach that lowest place,
And show me, though the last and least,
The fulness of that grace.
Might reach that lowest place,
And show me, though the last and least,
The fulness of that grace.
