Abraham Oldrin Salter (1892-1939) was a lawyer at Salter & Cowing with partner Rufus B. Cowing (1840-1920) until around 1879. Salter was a member of the New York Genealogical and Biographical Society. He was born on March 8, 1838 in Manhattan, to Albert Salter I (1811-1882) and Mary Oldrin (1813-1849). Abraham Oldrin Salter's name was often written as "A. Oldrin Salter" or "Abram Oldrin Salter". (b. March 8, 1838; Manhattan, New York City, New York, USA - d. Death of his business partner. "An outstanding figure in The Bronx in his capacity of learned and dependable lawyer, banker and citizen, is William Henry Steinkamp, surviving partner of the thirty-two year old firm of Salter & Steinkamp. … Admitted to the bar in 1895, be began to practice that year as a partner of A. Oldrin Salter, with offices at No. 140 Nassau Street. Both the partnership and the location continued to thrive until Mr. Salter's retirement in 1920, when he was one of the oldest practicing lawyers of the New York bar, having reached the ripe age of eighty-two. He died in May, 1921."
His death. "A. Oldrin Salter, 84, for sixty years a lawyer in this city, died yesterday at his home, 2225 Sedgwick avenue, The Bronx, after an illness of five weeks from heart disease. He entered the practice of law when he was 21 years old, immediately following his graduation from Columbia. For several years he had been a member of the firm of Salter & Steinkamp of Nassau street. He leaves a daughter, Mrs. S. B Pierce with whom he lived. The funeral will be held tomorrow."
Death of his wife. "On December 16, 1902, at her residence, Fordham, New-York City, Eva Augusta Salter, wife of Abram Oldrin Salter."
Death of his brother. "His wife died several years ago, and the only near relative surviving him is his brother, Abraham Oldrin Salter, an attorney, of No. 140 Nassau street."
His wedding. "Miss Eva A. Briggs, daughter of the late John A. Briggs, was married to Abram O. Salter, Wednesday, March 10, at the home of the bride's mother, at Fordham, by the Rev. Frederick W. Anderson. The house was decorated with flowers, and after the ceremony a wedding breakfast was served."
