Death of her father. "After an illness of long duration. William L. Piatt, aged 83 years, four months and 15 days, passed away Tuesday, January 22, 1918 at the home of his daughter, Mrs. William McDowell, 18 Mill street. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel N. Piatt, and was born at Westbrookville, where he had always lived, being a farmer by occupation. He was a veteran of the Civil War of 1864-1865, serving under Captain John S. Hicks, as a private of Co. K, 20th Regiment of New York Provisional Cavalry, being a volunteer. He enlisted January 20, 1864. By special order he was discharged August 9, 1865, at Louisville, Kentucky. He is survived by the following children: John Piatt, of Cuddebackville; Mary Piatt, wife of James Needham, of Newburgh; David Piatt, of near Yankee Lake; Bertha Janette Piatt, wife of Floyd Griffin, of Westbrookville; Nora Belle Piatt, wife of Algernon Skinner, of Winterton; George Piatt and Clarence Piatt, of this city. Also, one brother, Daniel Harrison Platt, of Westbrookvile. The funeral services will be held Friday at 2 o'clock, at the Methodist Church, Westbrookville."
