It was established in 1665, making it the first journal in the world exclusively devoted to science, and it has remained in continuous publication ever since, making it the world's longest-running scientific journal. "
Philosophical Transactions was split into two sections in 1887: A: Physical, Mathematical and Engineering Sciences and B: Biological Sciences
In 1809, the Abridgement Series was printed in 18 volumes, comprising issues from 1665-1800 and added biographies of the authors.
