Wikisource:WikiProject Royal Society Journals
This is a WikiProject for uploading all of the journal articles located at the Royal society. This resource is free, but the files need the watermarks removed. JSTOR has the same files without the watermarks, so this may be easier if you have access. Google books has scans of a few volumes, but these should not be used as they are very low quality. Another resource is Gallica, lower scan quality but usable if a few pages are missing. Free content volumes from various sources (including some previously mentioned) are also linked from The Online Books Page
The immediate aim of the project is to create a full directory of DJVU files, one for each volume. Since the files are only available in PDF format, and split into articles, this becomes more challenging, as the PDFs have to be merged without duplicating pages and then converted to DJVU. The watermarks at the top and bottom also need to be removed.
Later volumes do not have overlapping pages, making the collation much easier (and scriptable).
The ultimate aim of the project is obviously to transcribe and proofread these documents. An example of a completed issue is Philosophical Transactions/Volume 1/Number 1

Commons-side work
[edit]When a Volume is ready, it should be uploaded to Commons into Category:Philosophical Transactions - Volume 1 (change 1 to whichever volume you need). The filename should be File:Philosophical Transactions - Volume 001.djvu, with the number zero-padded to width 3.
Many PDF files have already been uploaded to Commons. These usually have systematic page names. However, they are split into articles and watermarked, so must still be merged and converted to DJVU.
Wikisource-side work
[edit]Every volume needs the following:
- An index page, which needs a pagelist that matches the text, as well as a (transcluded) contents table Index:Philosophical Transactions - Volume 001.djvu
- A volume page like this one: Philosophical Transactions/Volume 1, with a directory of all the issues in the volume.
- A Front Matter page, containing the front cover. Example: Philosophical Transactions/Volume 1/Title Page
- A set of separated sub-pages for preface, dedications, index, table of contents etc. (Index and TOC can be at the end of the volume)
- As many issues as there are in the volume: Philosophical Transactions/Volume 1/Number 1
- Later volumes may not have issues, but instead a smaller set of much longer articles. These should have their own page (i.e. treat each one like an issue).
- A set of separated sub-pages, containing indexes, etc: Philosophical Transactions/Volume 1/Index
