Lack of ToC
[edit]Personal opinion is that I believe that this page could do with a ToC, and a review of order for clarity. It is very much scroll-a-rama and not the best to navigate. -- billinghurst (talk) 12:10, 4 November 2008 (UTC)
Not everything is Christian
[edit]In particular, the "Gnostic Creed" and "Ecclesiæ Gnosticæ Catholicæ Creed" are anti-Christian. The latter is already correctly listed under Thelema at Religious texts W4rd3n (talk) 22:17, 8 July 2010 (UTC)
- I've removed Ecclesiae &c., as it's not Christian. However, Gnosticism is a long-standing Christian tradition, even if it is rather distinct from recent or mainstream Christianity.--Prosfilaes (talk) 04:07, 15 July 2010 (UTC)
Restructuring the portal
[edit]The basic setup of this portal dates from before the adoption of the portal classification system (see Help:Portal classification), and the majority of it doesn't belong here anymore. In effect, this portal was split into several portals, but the content hasn't been moved yet. For example, everything in the section "Scripture" should be moved to BS:The Bible and some of the stuff in the section "Doctrinal theology" should be moved to BT:Doctrinal theology. Portals and works relating to particular denominations should be placed in BX:Christian denominations
The contents of this portal should be basically the following:
- Christianity considered generally
- Christian perspectives on other (non-theological) topics
- Christian history, divided by period, from the Church Fathers to the present day
- Persecution of Christians
- Heretical movements within Christianity
- Christian tolerance/intolerance
- Biographies of Christians
I'm currently focused on cleaning up P:Language and literature so I'm not going to do this now. I'll eventually make my way over to this section and make the above changes if they haven't already been done by then. --Arbitan (talk) 16:25, 10 August 2022 (UTC)
- Agreed. Scripture should not be in this portal. —FPTI (talk) 08:43, 2 December 2024 (UTC)
Does anti-Christian material belong on this portal?
[edit]The argument is that anti-Christian material, such as the fringe "Christ myth theory", is "related to Christianity", and thus belongs on this portal. I am skeptical of this logic. By this same logic, flat-Earth screeds should have a place on the Geology portal, and creationist essays should be listed on the Biology portal.
This seems absurd to me. Maybe anti-Christian material should be its own section, but being listed first in the doctrinal theology section? This makes no sense. --FPTI (talk) 20:44, 10 November 2024 (UTC)
- Is flat-Earth geology? It's more astronomy or geography. Creationist essays should be on the Biology portal, IMO. I'm not sure where works on the Christ myth theory should go on the page, but it should be here somewhere.--Prosfilaes (talk)
- I have found an answer. Hopefully one that will satisfy us both. The Christ myth theory is about Christianity, but it is not part of Christianity, nor mainstream Christian theology. Therefore, the Christ myth theory should be under BLB: Rationalism or Freethinking. I have made this edit to Portal:Christ myth theory. Hopefully you approve. —FPTI (talk) 08:42, 2 December 2024 (UTC)
