Twilight

Yaso Saijō

The canary that has forgotten its song
Lies strangled on the sand
With a red, red cord so strong.

“Oh, what a pity!” my sister sighs,
And with tears in her eyes
Lets loose the poor little bird.

And just beyond her fingers white
The evening darkness croaches on.
