TOC

[edit]

@TE(æ)A,ea.: {{dtpl}} is in general not recommended technically (as it makes a table for each row), and it's better to use {{TOC begin}} & co. Here specifically, it is broken, as the dot leader actually overlaps with the first column (the links to the subpages), and the first column overlaps with the second one.

If I'd done it, I'd have used plain lists in the AuxTOC, but that's just my choice, and it's your work, so it's your call. It'd just be nice if you could use something else than dtpl. Cheers, — Alien  3

  • Alien: I don’t use “alternatives” because they don’t display as well. I usually use plain lists for templates, but here both authors and page numbers are useful, so I used dotted entry. The error here is owing to the other template setting a color-background overlay; I wouldn’t be using it otherwise. When other people actually do override my work by using different templates (or just a table) when replicating original tables of contents, it is clear to me why I continue to use the dotted-entry system. I said nothing about dot entries in general; I'm only saying that invoking {{dtpl}} directly, specifically, is to be avoided. The dot leader-first column overlap is linked to background, but the first column-second column overlap is not. e. g. at [1], where I wrapped some of these dtpls inside a limited-width {{c}}, in the before last row, the title covers part of the author.
dptl is only slightly prettier than {{TOC row 2dot-1-1}}, and that has the great advantage of not hiding parts of the text. The only thing it makes you lose is the a few dots at the right.
If directly calling dtpl (as opposed to the TOC rows and other templates calling subpages of dtpm in a cleaner way) has advantages I'm not aware of, please tell me. — Alien  3
